From reading through past posts :coffee: with a filter, manifold, full system and a re-map. Probably close to 140 bhp give or take a bit. Any more and your looking at cams, tb's, forced induction ect : :shades:

How much are you willing to spend?

ITBs, stand alone management, wiring and mapping costs a old member on here £5000+.

He'd already had headwork, and the exhaust system and he managed 160bhp.

That was drive in drive out.

I've spent close to £1200 but have either done it myself, or had mates helping.

That's also with a budget ECU and wiring and mapping still needs to take place.

If you can do everything yourself, you could hit 150bhp for £2000.

If not, you could double that.

Unfortunatly, there is no cheap way.

I don't believe anyone has hit over 135bhp without major work.

No matter what the over rated rolling road days may tell them!

Coilovers, manifold and BMC won't really make it massively quicker, but it'd be a hoot to drive, sounds great and help it rev a little easier.

Its not gonna be a match for a charged VR but would be a good hoot.

Given the regular bolt-ons (bmc, mani, hiflo cat, catback, ecu remap, and maybe cams)

which mods does this motor react to the best?

In other words, which mod should yield me the most HP?

And where can I get lw pulleys for this car?

TIA for your input.

The manifold is without a doubt the most usless item on the GTI.

Apparently VW intentionly screwed up the design as they were worried about emissions.

Although I may have made that up.

We are all waiting for Janspeed to get in gear and produce the manifolds, they have a pretty good zaust ready (needs a little work to fit perfectly apparently.)

In the mean time there is a Raceland Mani around for a 6N Polo 1.4 which does the job, but the steel is poo, and needs a lot of messing to fit well.

BMC is great because it makes it sound like a GTI.

Tigz,

Yeah, I went straight ahead and got the Raceland mani and BMC CDA from Kam Racing.

I read the Janspeed thread, and judging from how long they took to develop the catback,

I was skeptical on the wait time for a manifold

At any rate, I can't get iTBs because my race class' regulation forbids them.

I'd love to get Schricks but I can't find a tuner that be willing to remap the ecu.

There are quite a few places who will map the GTi ecu for aftermarket cams, But most of them will run a piggyback system and most will turn off the VVT, which IMO isnt that bad anyway, it only advances the exhaust side anyway. Then you can get the most out of the engine with a good set of pulleys with the cams.

I know catcams do a cam especially for the GTi with the VVT, but then its finding someone that will map it using the VVT, if you search through the the threads ive started, theres one with the parts list for shcrick and catcams.

your best bet is a vag specialist, for example the phirm or stealth racing. Theres loads more about, for a piggyback, the unichip is very good, it has alot of management parameters, as does and emerald ecu.

There are actually 4 cams that are suitable for the GTi, two of which would be fine for an everyday. The 7606703 and 7606704 cams are more suited for secondary / track day cars.

7606701: 254°/254°

7606702: 245°/254°

7606703: 295°/295°

7606704: 302°/302°

who me lol ? nope i dont think i had said that coz i dont lol ! a while back i was pricing up things like cams and asked people on here about them but dont think i said i had them lol am low on cash but now saving for them! well i thought that it would be less aggressive but also thought that you would only feel a small difference between them but the way your making it out 2 be is that you would feel a big difference between them, do you get my drift lol? but then again there is only 9 degrees between them so i would have went for the higher 1 lol

7606701: 254°/254°

7606702: 245°/254°

out of these 2 wat would b the best on power for the road use?

I'd say the 7606702s would be better for road use as they give better mid range torque.

The 7606701s have higher peak power but this only makes much difference on track (with a good driver) or in top trumps :P

Just a quick question, maybe a bit off topic but hey..

do bmc's ruin fuel consumption?

what about cat back systems?

dont know which to get first when i get my gti at the end of the month.. i want a cat back but i love the standard back box, would just buying a mid section make any noise/performance gains?

maybe best to just buy coilovers first haha but i want a sweet sound.... :(

HEEEEEEELPPPPP!!!!........

Neither should affect consumption. Unless you like the sound too much and put your foot down more. Which you probably will.

Neither will give any noticeable gains either, a manifold is your best bet if you want more power.

Coilovers would be first on my list for any car, put the power you have to good use before you worry about getting any more. :shades:
