Where do i start...

My little orange Seat Arosa 1.4 SE (2000 W) reg has been in my local garage for over a week now. It wont start from cold and i have to seriously rev it for it to start but it shoots up to 3-4000rpm then gets back down to 1000 and cuts out. After i've done this a few times and warm the engine up it judders but still works...just! The garage can't figure out whats causing it apart from the fact that is doesnt tick over properly. The management of the car has no faults. The amount of stuff they've put on it and taken off again is ridiculous proberly about £500 worth.

They are having one last stab with it on monday but if they still can't figure it out i dont know what to do except take it down the SEAT dealership and see what they say.

Has anyone heard of this happening before whether it was to theres or a friends? What was causing it and can it be fixed?

Help me please confused.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="confused.gif" />

Bad fuel?

Nope they soon threw that out the window, changed the lambda sensor and nothing! I'll keep you guys up dated, they are having one last stab on it tomorrow as they've had it for about 9/10 days now so im getting seriously stuck for a car with UNI and work etc. But if they can't find out whats wrong then i have no idea what to do with the car. Sell as seen, scrap it, or strip it for parts!

As for the management of the car, the guy working on it says its fine, no errors are coming up on the computer, the management is working like it should. Its just when its ticking over.

checked the HT leads? could be damaged/shorting and causing a stall or judder. check the casing on the engine end of the leads carefully for perishing/cracks. this happened to a friends cinq sporting a while a ago and a couple of garages missed it.

yeah it is! Had my fan switch replaced around september/october time due to it over heating.

I had same prob as you, but it my engine temp gauge wasnt working, which ment the temp ecu wasnt functioning correctly, giving the engine the wrong temp which confused the loop into not starting, Midlands Vw sorted it by sticking a new temp ecu in.

If i was you, id take it too a vw specialist...some of the dealerships are dodgey imo.

Surely if they are changing parts on your car, and then the problem reoccurs, its their problem, as you are paying them to fix your car, and it comes back they say its fixed and its not. Therefore they should do further work free of charge, or refund you the cost of the parts that didn't need replacing, as they are not doing what you are paying them for.

I'm sure it must be against trade descriptions if they are continually charging you after supposedly fixing the problem

I am not paying for the parts...like i said in my first post, "The amount of stuff they've put on it and taken off again is ridiculous proberly about £500 worth." I never said i was paying for them!

They are just putting new parts in, trying them out if they don't work then they simply take them out. They aren't even charging me labour for the time its been there because they said they cant do that, as they are the ones that have to find the problem. When they fit something and it works, thats when they charge me labour and parts but just for that day.

Does your garage have diagnostic software they can run on your car, a vw specialist or seat dealer would probably be able to check to see if the cars got any fault codes? Not to mention some lucky members of club lupo!

"The management of the car has no faults" I can't read lol Good luck anyway, hope you get it sorted.

Have they checked throttle body as they thend to get gunked up!

That will cause bad idle problems

I did mention that to him and he said no, its not that! Went back to the garage on monday and was there all day and today was sent down to another garage to make sure the computer wasnt missreading any errors and came back as no problems. To make sure again they took it to the seat dealership and checked it on their computers and again no error messages, management is fine!

Car is coming back soon and they are replacing the ECU(?) sensor hoping that, that will make a difference, so hopefully getting it back later this afternoon.

Will let you know how it goes!

I don't know much but have you tryed ECU reset i think you do it by disconnecting the batery for a wile and the reconnecting (over night should do) sorry if this is a bunch of turd worth a try

sounds like the throttle body , did the same thing on my golf, its its electronic diconect it and see if it idels the same.

I am about 85% sure that is what is causing it. Did the garage owner just say it isnt that because he thinks it isn't, or because he already cleaned it?

If he just thinks it, tell him to clean/check the throttle body and it should be solved.

Well here is an update for you all....

Car came out last wednesday, didnt start again Thursday mad.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> but since friday, its started first time everyday since! woo!

They took it to seat and SEAT noticed i had small 'nick' in my HT lead and changed it to a genuine SEAT one so im guessing that was the problem, but what i don't get is if that was the problem then why did it not start properly on thursday when i got it back??

Ah well, it works now so im happy. Anyone want to buy my Arosa?? lol.
