BUG4LIFE
Hello guys n girls, how you doing?Just doing a little research - as in about a year or so my girlfriend gonna be looking for a new car [her L reg Polo aint gonna last forever!!!] so I'm trying to find out a bunch of information about the cars we thinking about right now.It does depend on what her budget will be [we just bought our first house so our cash flow is all over the place at the moment], though this is what we thinking;- Vauxhall Astra cab [she does want a convertible and the last gen Bertone styled Astra is a classy looking car. Forget that its a Vauxhall, it's well slick though reckon she would have to have a budget of over £8k for a good one]- Mk3 Golf cab [but with the Mk4 headlights/front bumper. £4k+ will get one of these, and although I could see my girlfriend rolling around in a Golf cab, I aint to sure about the interior and stupid roll-over bar!!! Now I would love to get her a Mk1 cab, which does pull off the roll-over bar, though I know she gonna want a newer car].- Pug 306 cab [a sweet sweet looking car. Far sexier than the Golf though I aint ever had a French car, would a 60k+ miler be a safe buy - due to budget?]- Lupo GTi [the reason I'm posting on here. She says she don't really like them but I reckon if she had a test drive she would love it. 125bhp, 0-60 in 8.3, nipping in and out of traffic...wicked!!!]- Corrado VR6 [proper fast coupe. I love them, Sal doesn't style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="confused.gif" /> ]Though she does want a cab, I reckon she would get board of it after a while - and then just get pi$$ed at the wind noise and crap rear visibility [though the Astra got a glass rear screen]. And all the cabs listed above aint what you would call nippy cars? I reckon the Lupo GTi the way to go style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Just wondering if any of you guys have had any experiences with the above cars [obviously not inc the Lupo]? And what kind of Lupo GTi could we expect to get for about £5-6k in about a year? I will do a search for Lupo history, so I understand spec etc. All I know about right now is they had both a 5 and 6 speed box.Just so you know, my car history goes like this; Mk2 Golf 1.6 driver [wanted a GTi but I was young], 1.8T New Beetle [re-mapped by Jabba to 225bhp!], E30 BMW 325 Motorsport cab [my current car, though I'm trying to sell it cos I need dosh for my house], Mk2 16v GTi [will be the car I replace the Beemer with]. And just cos it excites me thinking about it - my future plan is to save like mad and get my dream car in a few years.....a Nissan Skyline R34 GTR [i want something that is scary fast!!!]Cheers for your help guys. Post some pics of your GTi's if you wanna. I'd love to see all the colours.

BUG4LIFE
That would be if I could fit in it - being 6' 6"? I've driven a Ford Ka and it wasn't exactly comfortable! How would it compare, size-wise in the interior [oh and of course my chicks current 93 Polo - my knees up round my ears]?GTi T, you got the rims I'd want her to have - so old skool! Might have to show her a pic style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
Philplop
You should have no problem. I'm 6' and look like a small child when sitting in it! There must be about 10" of headroom above me.My sister has a Ka and I feel far too high up when driving it. The Lupo has a height adjustable seat so you can set it really low. AndyW
What a random collection of possible cars. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />What do you want/need from a car? Space? Performance? Handling? Welcome to the forum btw.

leddy
i used to own a mark 4 astra 2.0 sri 3 door hatch with all the irmscher styling kit on. very nice looking car but they are not the most reliable cars tbh.wheel bearings go, exhaust manifolds crack, interior creaks and rattles, seat cables snap, alarm powersounders go and the throttle body gets clogged up with loads of s**t.nice car to drive when it was working good but for the size of the engine in mine it wasnt that quick!id say a lupo gti!! Bigfoot
306 cabs are nice but repair costs are expensive. the astras are nice but its a vauxhall style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />. lupo gti's are reeeeaally nice but they look daft standard tbh.But am a true dubhead an theres only really 1 choice for me....get the vr6... couple o guys sellin up on scottishvag just now. will get a good one
BUG4LIFE
Thanks for the feed-back so far guys.We aint really got any wants/needs in particular AndyW. It just gotta be cool style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I want her to have a Corrado [fast, looks great, VW quality], but she aint to hot on the looks. A cab would be nice but the Astra/Mk3 cab/306 aint fast enough for me and as mentioned above, reliability my be an issue with the none Vdubs? The Lupo is definetly cool, the only issue being interior/boot space [if we decide this is important or not?]. With each car you buy, you gotta make a compromise - and with each car in my list I think we could live with the compromises we would have to make [which is why it's a random list I guess?].Any pics of other colours guys? Adam
The Lupo is definatley a cool car, also if you do need to do a lot of shopping you could always fold the back seats down, that would leave you with the whole rear of the car, which is more than enough space for a weeks shopping. Just don't get any ideas about going to Ikea for wardrobes and a bed! border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" />

willcrook
225bhp is FAR too much for a new vw beetle!
BUG4LIFE
The Golf looks nice Mitch, I know my gf would be well pleased if she had something like that.My bug handled the power ok willcrook. It didn't transfer it into a sportscar or nothing, still wobbled around corners, but for straight-line shove it was nice - beat a bunch of Nova/Escort/Saxo owners anyway, which is the important thing border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" />
andyp
thats another one with one of those little spoilers... tidy bug matewheels look good on it
Adam
Them spoilers are cool aren't they?! Are they functional and do they move at certain speeds? It looks like the spoiler that was on the black bug at VW Festival.
BUG4LIFE
The spoiler is/was on 1.8T and V5 New Beetles, and raised up [like in my pic] at 97mph - I obviously used the manual switch to get it up! I reckon it was more of a gimmick to make them different and appear more 'sporty' than the 1.6 and 2.0 bugs? Though the manual says its for high speed stability - much needed at 150+ style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> In the States I think the spoilers raised at a much lower speed, which would of made sense here as 97mph is a little high and why you aint gonna see many bugs with it up style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
