Panel trimming

Recommended Posts

Ive come across a few cheap metres if Suade.

Before buying I thought Id bring a up cut home with me as he said it was ***** to try and use as its almost impossable to stretch.

Hes not joking.

I think its pretty much impossable to do in one piece and cant think of a way it could be done.

Anyone got any ideas before I call him and tell him it doesn't matter?

I think it would get minging pretty quick... like my suede Wallabees... thogh spilling beer on your door cards wouldn't happen quite so often!

Boot lining? What sort o fhting do they put in their boot floors?

Its really hard wearing, and I don't like leather so thought it would be a good compromise.

He had it to cover false floors, he installs audio equipment for a living.

I have faux suede on my panels - its been there a little while now and is holding up very well. Just needs brushing every so often to keep the fluffyness in line and thats it.

I found that a few small, neat creases in inconspicuous places (below the big handle, lower back corner) let me get it on my panels, although it might be diffferent if thats real suede smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Flocking, did a quick check here in sweden and i guess it would set you back a £100 or so..

It is done in different size grain and color. Too bad it takes special machines to do =(

(atleast thats what i heard, electrostatic stuff)

My workmate mentioned you used to be able to get something in a spray, that when the fibres hit the plastic, the static caused them to stand up on end, then the glue the fibres are contained in hold them in place?

Nice range of colors!

Though i think the machine is needed, i wouldn't wanna stick them on end by hand wink.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Looking at this

http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp?productID=8388

It looks as though you add the adhesive, then use a 'puffer' to 'puff' the fabric dust over the adhesive.

Once dry you brush off the excess and buff up the fabric.

Just spoke with them on the phone.

A kit, and an extra 1200ml of flock and a extra 250mm of the adhesive will cover 5sq metre.

  • 1 month later...

Done most of the panels, its fantastic, takes 24 hours to dry so will take some pics tommorrow.

So easy to do, just paint on the glue, then give the bottle a hard squeeze.

Thats it!

Great to be able to get into all the hard to reach places, you could never do (well I couldn't!) using a solid material.

Tempted to do the roof lineing.

Really pleased with how its looking.

Need to touch up the missed parts, then get started on the rear pieces.

Would be nice to be able to fit them back in the car!

You know the little tray under your headunit?

It feels like the inside of that.

Adam, Ive done the lower dash, centre console and started on the side panels.

Loads more pieces to do, but Im sure it will be worth while.

Need to cover the handbrake in the Suide I have left over.

Looking good tigz!

So do you think it'd be possible to flock the top half of the dash (the textured part where my airbags gone off) without takin the dash oput or not? Just masking off wents and centre console etc?

And would it apply straight to the textured surface or would i need ruibbed down?

Sorry about all the questions, but youve seen the stuff and I havent got a clue what to expect with the stuff! biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Sounds good, have you encountered any problems while doing it?
