Use something like this to watch the folders you're downloading MP3's into, and iTunes will automatically update itself with new tracks. No use on OS X obviously.

If you use Firefox across a few Mac/PC's try using Foxmarks - Sync's your bookmarks (and passwords, but I don't use that) between an infinite number of machines so you always have them all. Very cool
