  1. Bloody ebay, when i searched for sealey vs1663 in and cheapest 1st £14.40 is it. That's what i bought. Your bargain £11.98 ones didnt show at all!
  2. If you drained it partially when doing the thermostat then you might just have air locked it a bit. Squeezing and massaging the top and bottom hoses with it running (watch out for fans and fingies etc) doesnt shift it (heater matrix open)? or is there a bleed nipple? Edit for not reading properly LOL If no air lock then a blockage in the rad, if the coolant you drained was clean then that's unlikely. heater matrix gets hot? or just warm?
  3. I use large mole grip for the spring type hose clips, does the job, keep your fingies well away though... If i was going to buy a tool for it though i'd get the remote type with a cable on it, miles easier to use. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-Flexible-Remote-Ratchet-Action-Hose-Clip-Clamp-Remover-Long-Reach-VS1663/141558319690 Ha, just bought one, I couldnt resist at that price.
  4. These guys break polo and lupos among other things and prices are reasonable. If it isnt listed ask, but they seem pretty lax on answering queries tbh. http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/jlcautospares/ Otherwise that sort of thing is main dealer fare.
  5. Generally it's going to be 20 - 30 ft lbs for that sort of thing. http://workshop-manuals.com/volkswagen/polo-mk4/engine/4-cylinder_injection_engine/engine_assycylinder_blockcrankcase/removing_and_installing_engine/torque_settings/ I doubt that's your engine, but it's a reasonable guide.
  6. Open a door and grab the back end of it and lift it up, any movement detected? If it goes up and down you'll see it on the hinge pins most likely. There's a small round cap on a small (5 or 6mm?) bolt on each hinge, pull off the cap and tighten it up to remove the play. Unless the hinge is really ****ed then that should be it sorted.
  7. The one under the top hose on the radiator is probably the fan switch. Coolant will come out when you pull the sensor out so either be quick on the draw or catch it and refill after. I havent done this myself yet btw LOL
  8. This one I think: http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk1/power_unit/1.4/51;_55;_59_kw_tdi_pd_engine/engine_cooling/cooling_system/parts_of_cooling_system_engine_side_summary_of_components/ Number 19.
  9. Bought this stuff for £17.99: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161460452486 That'll do for now.
  10. That was about 4 years ago by previous owner, i bought it as a bit of a shed for £250 back in June and it isnt on the road yet. Previous owner had spent £££s on it as he used it form some for of eventing or something. It has full history, Koni shocks, eibach springs, (Not sure of the drop it might be 50mm) Tarox front brakes, rear anti roll bar, SS exhaust (loud) among other things so a must have bargain me thinks. It's still a shed and will never win any beauty contests, but i will be MOTing it very soon then tinkering as on ongoing project. I'm hoping to make more power out of it. I'll very likely be running 13" wheels as Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2s with ET25 fit with no problems (I bought a single ex display one to test). I think I'll wait till it's on the road though and I can tell if the brakes are up to the job or need 280mm upgrade or not. I have a stud conversion to fit now as well, so it will have wheels studs and nuts instead of bolts. I havent driven it beyond 1st and reverse but did take it for a very brief naughty drive a week or so back just to get up thru the gears and see what it went and stopped like, felt laggy and then power, the power band is a bit far up the rev range for my liking. The brakes were ****, seized rear cylinder didnt help. I bought an mpps lead to dump and load ecu files, but the map on mine seems custom made and appears useless for further DIY tuning. I'll buy a spare tdi ecu and mess with that instead as I'd like earlier power delivery and more torque.
  11. Very nice indeed. A much better torque curve than mine and more of it too. Here's mine:
  12. HC is cheaper than fully synthetic so it might have been that, but £12 is bargainlicious. Anyone used the Mannol german stuff? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5W40-PD-ENGINE-OIL-VW-505-01-20-litres-Mannol-Energy-Formula-German-20l-4-x-5L-/261890025202 20L 5w 40 HC PD oil for £66.50 delivered
  13. 1st thing i noticed on my tdi is the eml doesnt come on with ignition. Most other cars do so you are expecting it. You can test the dash bulbs in vcds i think. Get yourself a £5 VAG diagnostic lead off ebay,
  14. Nice, can you post your print out? (edit anything you dont want showing if needs be)
  15. My mapped TDI is a bit tappy and i'll be doing a service on it, wondering what oil you would recommend for it? I know 505.01 spec but 5w/30 or something else? I found these earlier: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1217856599575w/30 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3905292377375w/40 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2520843074195w/30 I'd like to buy bulk for a better deal if poss, 20L or 25L but didnt want to get the wrong stuff LOL
  16. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161717467805 There's even some on the bottom of the page for less!
  17. Oil pressure switch is cheap enough and easier than dropping the sump, but check the wires to it first. Do you know what oil was put in it? Pretty sure the lupo would have mesh on the end of the pick up pipe, it's just to keep the big stuff out.
  18. Go for a blast and get the engine up to temp, leave it cool down a bit then take the plugs out and see if they are the same colour noting which cylinder they came out of. Check the colour against spark plug colour charts on the internet, but they should all be light tan colour if engine is running right. Basic guide: http://www.verrill.com/moto/sellingguide/sparkplugs/plugcolorchart.htm Just because the eml isnt on doesnt mean there arent faults being logged, so you need to get the codes read. Cheap £5 lead will let you do it yourself and save a lot of money.
  19. And what are the codes? clear them all 1st and see what comes back. It's likely electrical if it's happening same time as the gauge dropping.
  20. Get a cheap vagcom lead and read the fault codes if any.
  21. Downloaded 1.4 tdi standard map and can open it and muck about with it in vagedcsuite no probs, cant do bugger all with my one though... grrrr Also got an audi A2 tdi modded and standard maps. All are 512kb and load into vagedcsuite fine(missing a map or two though), mine is 204kb even on slow dump. I'll dump ecu from another car when i get time and see what i get, just to eliminate the lead as a problem. More reading required....
  22. My tdi was remapped to 105 by previous owner, i assumed i could dump the file and fiddle with it in vagedcsuite or similar. (that was the plan) VAGEDCsuite will only open it in hex as it has no checksum. I cant do anything to it apart from look at the hex or edit the hex in there. WinOLS I can open it despite no checksum, but it cant see any obvious maps within the file for me to alter like torque map, boost map etc it just shows the whole lot in one go and the lines dont look like any other map i've seen. So this is starting to feel like either custom firmware that needs specific kit or it's corrupted. File size seems off to me as the edc15b used 512kb flash so a full dump should have been 512kb I would think. It could be just stripped down to the bone and correct, but odd i cant seem to read it properly. I havent driven the car beyond 1st and reverse so dont know what it goes like, until i know what it goes like i wasnt going to be flashing anything to it as that would be pointless. But i certainly expected to just dump my ecu and load it into vagsuite and be able to read it and edit it if desired ready to be flashed back to the car. I'll keep reading for now... But basically i'd like to know what anyone elses dump looks like really so i have something to go on. I might buy a cheap 1.4 tdi ecu and see what dumps i get off that.
  23. Just took 2 full dumps and file size is the same 204kb size as above and i have no checksum at all, so cant open them in VAGEDCsuite. Car starts and runs so reluctant to mess about correcting checksum at the moment. What size is your ecu dump? What checksum do you have? what ecu? Mine is 204kb, no checksum and edc15p15p (if i remember right). Edit: ok checksum from original unmodded file is needed to open it apparently. Winols opens it, but isnt very intuitive. I probably need an original file. Edit 2: H'mmm cant do anything with this map it seems unless i fancy my hand at hex editing, there are no common maps detected within it by WinOLS for me to edit. Anyone got a Lupo tdi ecu map i can play with, standard or not?
