  1. would you split? i only can use the rears, as the fronts are different for all models... different mass engines!
  2. to move the slam panel, don't you need to access the bolts behind the bumper? as in you can't get to it without stripping lots out of the way? never done it, but the gap is small, like 10-12mm...
  3. correct! next....? (ok, so everyone knows i only have SDIs) but used in most timing belt position critical pulleys, on most engines. it slots into the shaft and locks a pulley in place (just in case you have no idea what we're talking about) to stop it rotating on the shaft.
  4. ok, where does this very critical thing go? without it, all hell breaks loose. i should have put some scale in there, but it's about 13mm long and looks just like a rare earth magnet (but isn't).
  5. nice result. that'll outlast the rest of the car!

they dont really expire. and are very useful to keep just in case. they just burn, but don't have any propelling ability, so no use in a rocket. however emptying out the contents of an airbag actuator can be interesting.

my first thoughts were that it was some odd breathaliser thing that you had to blow into before the car decided that you were able to drive it. in singapore, they have audible warning 'chimes' that make different sounds depending in how fast yiu're driving. just in case you cant see the speedo.....
  8. nice. same alloys as my mk4! welcome to club lupo! your source to saving money. no more money pit!

    sounds curious...
  10. almost certainly a wiring or connector issue. not switch. not bulb. not indicator switch flash mech. not fuse. not power relay. not earth. i'd start at the light bulb connector and work back. a thin needle or pin pushed thriugh the insulation is your friend (with a multimeter or another tiny light bulb).
  11. jet wash. allow to dry for a few days in dry weather. waxoyl (or equiv). good for another five years of daily driving doesn't look good, but after a while the mud and dirt that builds up hides it all.
  12. how did that happen!?!?
  13. if it's just the ends that have gone, you can do that while it's still in place. bellows off, simply unscrew the track rod ball joint gripping the outside with a pair of molegrips (or the correct tool). i also recommend using a drop thread lock when tightening. when gripping the rack to stop it turning and damaging the pinion, wrap a strip of copper or ali around it before gripping it, to stop any scratching. very common vdub problem. water gets in rusting them out.
  14. ok, i'll have a rummage through my barn and take a pic of some unsuspecting 'thing'....

that's what i thought, but hey, i'm always willing to learn. cool.

  17. is it like a misfire? i don't think it's the ecu resetting, as that takes just over a second. so fuelling is probably ok. my guess would be an ignition fault, but as it's so quick, the ecu probably wont pick it up. it needs at least four revs, consecutively, to throw a code.

i was taught today, that an acceptable replacement for the word 'cool' is either a) sick or b) rad (radical). 'cool' is for old guys.
  19. show us a pic of what you bought...
  20. something don't sound right here... unless the actual shaft has gone (very very unlikely), it's got to be one of the spiders. so i second sausage's thoughts. angle grinder and a £20 new cv joint kit.... just to be clear- the shaft itself is nothing more than a solid round metal bar with splines on each end. the drive shaft >assembly< consists of 3 components : inner cv - shaft - outer cv joint. all pretty standard interchangeable stuff scross the lupo/arosa/polo range. i think the garage is trying to pull a fast one.

i used to 'do' other forums, but this one has something different about it. i think it's almost an eccentric thing. to me it 'feels' more responsible. none of this K&N filters, go faster stripes and cherry bombs. @mscherryviolet i get what you mean, i think.
  22. @Lupse Lady which country are you in? we have some members on here all over europe (world!) who might be able to help you near where you live...
