  1. Stationary for a couple of mins, with the front wheels off the ground in gear to clean the diff too. Then dump the contents while still spinning, keeping all the bits in suspension (in oil). Gets all the metal bits out. See definitive gearbox thread...
  2. Flush first with some cheapo stuff...
  3. Was thinking that too, but there's something else going on to give those codes. Especially with the MAP and throttle motor.
  4. No idea right now. Might be a loom fault, or the main feed supplying all the sensors is down. Could be a fuse. Manifold air leak?
  5. Welcome to club lupo! could be a lot of things. Good start would be to get a cheap diagnostics thing (ebay?). might be TPS? TEmp sensor. Air filter. You need a working O2 sesnsor. But diagnostics will confirm everything. pic?
  6. Wow! I mean seriously, who drives a beach buggy in the snow....?! How do you keep an air cooled engine warm? The snow drifts look just like sand dunes in the desert. But my guess is that you can't really walk on the stuff. Train stuck in the snow? How? Just push it out of the way.... Shows that I have no experience at all of this type of weather.

    Rear Wiper Motor

Yeah, just about every vdub of that era has the exact same problem. Water gets between the inner brass pipe and outer steel shaft then freezes. Activate wiper while frozen. Snap. Water pours inside.
  8. You have white stuff everywhere. Looks cold. Even the wellies you guys wear look like they have an extra layer of insulation!
  9. I cannot imagine -40. That is seriously cold. It must affect things like synthetic rubbers (seals, belts o rings). Even plastic wire insulation will crack if it flexes when that cold. What about things like wiper motors and other stuff that has grease as a lube? Doesn't it set hard like concrete?
  10. 5h out of my self employed 10h days will cost me at least £170... being as high and mighty as I am, with so many subordinates, minions and dependents naturally means time away is just too precious. I even question why I actually do any work on my cars. Every time I do I lose money! It can't be the love of it....
  11. It's the synchros that get knackered. Once the pedal box has been fixed, i strongly suggest you flush then renew the gearbox oil. There'll be lots of yellow metal floating around in there (jamming up bearings).
  12. Yeah, when Matt switched server he apparently forgot to copy the wiki over... shame, as we spent hours doing a really good buyers guide, covering all the most common faults/issues and stuff to watch out for when buying a loop.
  13. The most comfy seats of all vdubs, no debate, as i've had discussions with a lot of people on the subject are the poverty spec mk2 golf ones. Ugly as sin. Vinyl backed. Creaky. Squeak when you try and adjust or move them. But after a long day of physical work, they are heaven. The worst are mk4 golf seats ir A4's. Something to do with the shape. The backs are curved instead of the new trendy straight ones you get in most new dubs. Thinking about it, the polo breadvan seats were the same i think....
  14. Hey, at least us chaps are useful for something then...
  15. For the sake of an extra hour's travelling, I'd take it to Rich's workshop just in case there is anything else that hasn't been spotted. Then at least everything would be available ready to go. Just in case... also means Rich will be more relaxed doing the work with no time pressure stress while you go off and have a coffee somewhere
  16. No way. Maybe 1 1/2h... All the plastic trim out. driver's seat out. Pillow. detach pedals. drill out bolts. vacuum out swarf replace box reattach pedals and clips. replace plastics refit seat adjust clutch cable brief test drive.... readjust as needed.
  17. Ok, i have just read this through. I need to put my engineers hat on. This is wrong. Very wrong. just like @Deako mentioned, they will fail in a hard accident. Those rear TT belts are not correctly anchored (they shouldn't be used). A seat belt has to take about 10kN of force (about a ton) during an impact. 10g. Deformation is acceptable, but not separation. Ask yourself, could you briefly suspend the weight of a lupo on that TT seatbelt mounting without it coming away. And that TT front seat would 100% detach. Not clever. Even stupid things in cars turn into weapons during bad accidents. Like your spare wheel taking your head off if that little plastic anchor restraint bolt is broken during a roll over accident. That's a TÜV fail in Germany. A friend of mine saw the very sad result of that... Reupholstering the seats to whatever material you like isn't expensive. Like £50-75 each labour cost. Or get a sewing machine and do it yourself. Next time I do one, I'll do a how-to. It's really not that difficult. Even I can do it.... Threading a sewing machine- that's another topic.

    Vw Lupo 1.4 16v

Do TT seats make just about a perfect swap? Never tried. Never even looked. Just curious to know if this is a 'thing'....?
  19. Were they for sale from VW dealers or do you think that they are all imported cars? Hey, I bet the condition of the RHD cars (if they are), is really good. No rust.... Any GTIs going cheap? Show us a pic with some red dust behind the car
  20. Hey Jonno, are there many Lupos in SA? Do you know if many other countries in Africa have them? can't help you with the seats... i dunno.

    100k miles

Never noticed that in your profi pic... so cool. I like! That's a proper instrument. Everything in one unit. Even gear change markers!

    Warning light

Welcome to Club Lupo! Sounds like nothing is wrong, perhaps you hadn't noticed it before? Only worry if it stays on after starting the car.
  23. Ah, now i get it. But the relevance??? Danno? Bacon? Weiners? Huh?
  24. Quick poll.... does anyone know what it means? Be honest.
