  1. Be prepared to cut the pipe to get it off, it can probably be repaired at Pirtek but not always, each model seems to be a little different and aren't always compatible but this is not a good reason to scrap the car.
  2. As above not much you can do apart from putting the car on a crash diet, wider tyres are an absolute no no, if you can access body parts from a GTI, You can lose weight on the bonnet, front wings, doors and boot lid as these are all aluminium. Consider the money you have to spend doing this though and you'd just buy a faster car in the 1st instance
  3. Me too, Arosa TDI, Lupo Sport TDI with sunroof, love them both. Had a Arosa TDI for my youngest son too but he found it embarrassing so moved on to a Mini that he struggles to run. I've owned at one time or other every model in the line up bar the GTI but having done the Golf GTI Mark 1 and 2 stuff in my yoof, I don't feel I'm missing out.
  4. It's the sort of car that's despite being well past its peak still has life in it but isn't so polished or cherished that you'd be frightened to thrash it
  5. They too fragile; whereas the TDi will always have a dedicated cheapskate following
  6. Yes, the Bristol car is irredeemable, but the monkey hangers car will live again
  7. This too is quite nasty but in a more manageable and fixable way https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STUNNING-2001-Y-Volkswagen-Lupo-1-6-GTi-3-dr-LAST-OWNER-12-YEARS/173686371911?hash=item287083b647:g:TH0AAOSwliFcD8Q5
  8. The tdi's and the better kept GTI's will always have a value
  9. this won't be to everyone's taste, it certainly offends me but it might be a bargain to others https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-LUPO-GTI-1-6-AVY/123749697718?hash=item1cd00e88b6:g:rbwAAOSwwv1cxeaZ
  10. Anyone have an opinion on this model, 60 bhp, so miserable power, small brakes but same tax as the 1.4 16v, best avoided or does it have any advantages in the lighter front end, any tuning options?
  11. French cars of that era, Renaults and Pugs don't rust
  12. probably, can't remember having to do anything but change the oil, and even that I'm told could be recycled via the fuel tank
  13. Strange that the TDI can't use these biodiesel fuels as I believe the 3l Lupo is advertised as Biodiesel friendly http://www.volkspage.net/technik/ssp/ssp/SSP_218.pdf
  14. These seem to be very rare, has anyone got one to sell or does anyone know if the equivalent from a 6n Polo would fit? As these seem much more readily available.
  15. add a bit of drain cleaner not too much though at it can take the paint off
  16. Looks like you don't have speed bumps were you live?
  17. would a standard tdi gearbox be the best answer for this car in the long term
  18. If the car has been lowered be prepared for new wheel bearings
  19. add cat cleaner and then take it for a half hour run keep the speed at 70 mph, that should clear the light, the window is probably down due to the switches rather than the motors
  20. I think it's got a few of my family members too, hence the comment
  21. But it is in N/land which as everyone in the NE knows means its a cut above South Shields
  22. the trick is to add a bit of drain cleaner once a year to keep the jets clean but don't over do it as it will damage the paint on your bonnet of its not diluted
