Could be the water pump has failed. In my experience I have found thermostats usually fail open.

Are the inner and outer track rod joints worn?

Well I might be moving to Switzerland with work and I'm wondering if I could take my current GTI over with me. I'll probably end up buying a LHD car anyway though. The GTI is not my everyday car.

Yes the red one looks like a 1.0/1.4 75bhp caliper. The ball joint could be wrong too - that's what gives the GTi a wider front track. Might be worth checking to see if they are different on each side.

Sounds like a lot if paperwork. Is the import tax a lot? I ask as I may be doing something similar fairly soon. It was on KW V1 coilovers.

Yes there is. You have to use the GTI handbrake cables if you didn't already know.

150 seems low, I got between 200-210 on all of mine. Tested around 101k miles. The VAG software ELSA states what compression should be but I don't have it to hand right now.

The rear beam is a straight swap, I have one on my TDI. The brake balance controller bolts to the same place as the height sensor on the GTI.

We've had 3 non GTI Lupo's and they all had GALA. You have to enable it in the radio settings though.

Oh right, that's odd then, as all the Lupo's I've had had that wire fitted. That's what the radio uses to get louder as you drive faster. Do you know if your radio had that feature working before you removed it?

The GALA signal is in the Lupo plug on the pin labelled GA. You will see this is in the same place as the pin on the MCD labelled GALA

Ray, I have to say I agree with you about some of the cars that get so much interest... Back to the photo, I think that year was as close as we have ever got to having as many different coloured GTI's together as possible! Orange and Laser Blue aren't very common!
