Mk1 Leon FR = Golf 4 PD150 in a Spanish Dress

Mk2 Leon FR = Golf 5 170DPF in a Spanish Dress :)

1.9TDI PD's give the best peak torque when remapped and generally more overall but the 2.0TDI's distribute the torque a lot more smoothly and thus feel a little softer / more petrol like

budget is about 10k... so no beamers lmao! and gotta think about insurance, will be 19 w/ 2yr NCB

first quote for leon mk1 but later model with cupra R body kit is about £1,300 but I'm sure it can go cheaper :)

alpina is nice! but don't really want spend 16k :/

what do you think leon & VRS would get after remaps? they are a bit slow atm :)

172bhp from a generic REVO map on my our Ibiza FR TDI. Other companies quote the same or a little more. It's a different kettle of fish driving wise from the oh-so fast 100hp Lupo Sport though.

A remap on the vrs will see you 165-170bhp. If you want more though, you're going to be looking at a new clutch. A 150 Leon would see around 180bhp froma remap. Have you driven either? Although the fabia's figures don't look all that great on paper, they go really well.

10k is a pretty good budget - there's plenty of nice Bm's in that range, but insurance could be a problem.

To be fair, that sort of quote isn't all that bad. I was paying that on a 1.6 Escort when I was 19.

figures look good :D ibiza sounds interesting too...

I'm keeping my eye out for ones close by to go and test drive but aren't any Leon's around here.. they're all 100+ miles away

need to go over to seatcupra.net and see what the mods are for ibiza, I hate how the rear of the roof drops down it's so ugly xD

and also are the 90, 100k+ miles ones ok ? or would you just avoid them altogether?

Interior space in the Ibiza is mean. If you need legroom in the back, forget it. We opted for the Ibiza because we thought it looked more 'youthful' than the Fabia. Don't forget the Polo 9N GT as a further option if you absolutley have to go VW.

Having said that, evidence from Traffic Cops would suggest that the Ibiza is sturdy enough to be launched into a field at some speed

Apart from the less than generous space, our car has been pretty faultless in the 4½ years we've owned the car.

if you look at what car I have now lmao.. space is no problem for me

it's not really a fact of having to go VW.. it's just they're the only ones that match my range :(

most other manucaturers only make larger quick diesels so the insurance isn't as cheap, nor do I really want a focus/astra at 19.. lol

I tried searching for that rover but didn't find anything

Well, in day to day motorway driving, my VRS is *way* faster than my GTI.

It's all about the riding the torque wave of the older PD TDIs and adjusting your driving style to keep it on boost.

I commute 90 miles in it every day (this is why I have it) and it's a great car. A bit dull, but v. fast in a straight line. Lots of pull at motorway cruising speeds - just put your foot down and (so long as you're spooled up), you're away...

On the motorway the GTI, by contrast, requires planning ahead because you've got to wind it up to get the power...

In short - and oddly I was thinking this when out in the GTI just yesterday - the GTI is a great "hustler" of a car - fantastic on the point and shoot and the darting around town. The VRS is the cruiser with the low down grunt.

BMW E46 diesels are pretty fast and can be had for as little as £3000 now - though that is only likely to get you a 320d, might need a bit more cash for a 330d.

Some of the Volvo's with the D5 diesel in are pretty quick too.
