  1. Nice. 👍🏻 After you chnaged the injectors, wasn't smoke a problem? I did the same on one of my SDIs and there was no way I could get it through an MOT. It actually failed! Like you say, response and extra power was amazing, but to the detriment of anyone behind me... Had to chuck the originals back in again. @battlebus did the turbo mod on his 1.7, and the resukts were apparently impressive. Almost too much power and torque for such a small car (and gearbox).

Topran is an OEM supplier I believe. I've seen mk2 parts labelled topran and VW on the same plastic moulding. It's possible that they have an economy line, but truth be told, OEM parts are super super cheap when they supply them by the truck load to the likes of vdub. VAG generally only make the really big bits, engines, gearboxes etc and just do assembly work. Most of a Lupo isn't actually made by vdub. They just put it together. Actually, even gearboxes are outsourced nowadays. 🙄
  3. Yeah. The lowest connector is the crank sensor. Next up is the injector no.3 timing feedback sensor, then you have that monster round connection behind. I've never removed the two glowplug wires from the round connector, but heard that you can press in the sprung barbs with a small screwdriver or pin from the plug side (not the wire side). You need to lift a tiny sprung locking tab out of the way, then rotate the car side loom plug anti clockwise. Then the engine side half can slide out from memory. I'm so fed up of replacing glow plugs all the time. They just don't last. No matter what brand. Beru, Bosch. Genuine vdub. They all pack up. In all my SDIs. All my glow plug looms are wrecked. I just crimp the plug ends a bit so they keep a nice tight fit on the plugs.

What parts did you need to buy? That steering column sleeve looks like a pain. And there's that spring. No idea why that's there. @Rich he didn't want to drill it out as he wanted to keep the same key set I believe. Did you manage to find the fault in the old lock switch?
  5. Very tidy example Change your transmission fluid, filter and final drive oil if you don't know its history... EVERYONE forgets to change them and a new auto box is expensive. Welcome to club lupo!

    Hi all!

Can u delete this and start a new thread? Confusing...

Lots of pics please. Never pulled a barrel from an SDI Lupo...
  9. Yeah, relay or wire to relay. Or ign switch.
  10. I wouldn't pull the head off. At least not yet. I don't think it's an internal problem. Temp sensor ok? V Common fault.
  11. What readings are you getting from the temp sensor? Sounds like multiple faults TBH. Assuming all the sensors are ok, the ECU is simply delivering the amount of fuel it should. So could be something else, like fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, that sort of thing. Easy to prove though- does the car pull ok on the road at high revs in high gear? That'll eliminate a fuel supply problem. If it's only lean at idle, then something else... VCDS will give you all the measurements. Do it cold then hot. Welcome to club lupo
  12. I've been finding the same for many parts from ECP recently. Yeah when left and right sides are different, i can't stand it. OCD for sure Ball joints, track rod ends, bonded bushes, lock components, brake parts, wheel bearings. Arggghhhh!
  13. If it sticks, my guess is that something hasn't been put back right. The plunger should travel in and out quite easily, with the pedal connection point at the centre of the pivot. So when off, it should be slightly high, when pressed slightly low. Is the brake servo working ok?
  14. Jammed control switch (water may have got in). You need to remove the door card, then remove the switch. Then swap it, or if you're feeling adventurous, dismantle it and clean the little circuit board and metal discs. Or just leave it disconnected for the time being. Welcome to club lupo
  15. There's a couple in the Reading area I know of. I'd say they both know their stuff on vdubs. VAG autoworks and Storm developments.
  16. Depends... could be a bit better, like 70?
  17. Yeah, SDI is a fair bit more involved. My least fav cam belt.
  18. The weird thing is though, even when you use the locking tools - the way where you can insert and remove the pegs easily afterwards - I've found that the torsion value can be wrong. Should be 0.0. When I've used the tools (which I can't find at the mo), I've ended up +- 0.8 out. No idea why. Then I correct it manually (trial and error). I have read on other forums (American usually), where people have experimented with different torsion value settings on the 1.9 TDI, some generate a bit more torque (and smoke), other's less torque and cleaner. I can only assume it's the plunger position relative to crank. I don't know if the ECU compensates for different torsion values, but i guess it must do, or injection timing will be out??? I like to think of torsion value as a different instantaneous slope angle as it pushes down on the injector. Steeper= more dispensed fuel for a given open injector pulse. Shallower, less fuel. A bit like VE pump timing.
  19. As per title... my first ever Lupo one. Just over an hour's work. Engine code AMF. But used only basic tools. No pins, rods, timing clamps... just a paint mark, spanners and a socket set. All this talk of having to make sure all the timing is set perfectly. What a load of carp. Most difficult bit is removing the undershield. Loads of space to work compared to the other 4 cylinder engines. The purists will be telling me, no no no, you can't do it like that (aimed at @RAB) Yes you can. At the end all you need to do is check the torsion number on VCDS and adjust the cam timing if it's not 0.0 when hot. (Group 14 item 4). That's it. I actually like to set it at +0.6 to allow it to settle in to 0.0 after a running few miles. Helps if you make a note of the value before starting your work to see if the old belt has stretched (indicated by a negative number like -1.6 meaning the injection cam timing is late). (late edit- i always take out the glow plugs when I do a diesel- easier to turn the engine and you get a chance to inspect the plugs. 2 had failed)
  20. Might have been me? I used a short piece of 15mm plastic plumbing pipe. I'll see if i can find that pic. 6 years ago! If we're talking the same clip...?
  21. You bet. Thumbs up from me. Very nice...
  22. What I like to call a 'minter'. Lovely condition. 👍🏻
  23. Yeah, that looks ok. If mostly short journeys, I'd go one level hotter. So if it's a nnn7 plug, try a nnn6. Helps keep combustion chamber a bit cleaner, but shorter plug life.
  24. That is cool. Watching this thread... 👍🏻
