Truthfully? It's absolutely horrendous and possibly the most Barried up Lupo I've ever seen.

1. Audi frontend on Lupo. I've said it time and time again, it looks naff and this is no exception.

2. Barry as **** rear bumper.

3. Barry as **** alloy wheels.

4. Barry as **** side skirts.

5. Barry as **** Lambo doors.

6. Super classy steering wheel.

7. Completely smoothed exterior. so when the battery goes flat you can't get in. Absolutely ingenious.

With regards to what he says in the video: no, it's not better to start off in this. If you're 17/18 you'll never get insured on this. I'd happily recommend a bog standard Corsa over this... well, no I'd recommend a bog standard Lupo actually!!

And who said originality is dead? Nobody but considering it looks exactly the same as every other Lupo with a butchered Audi frontend, crossed with the same style as every other Barried up shitter, Lambo doors etc.

Nice Sony stereo? Just a standard Halfords £30 job...

I wouldn't even consider this... stick with what you've got :)

Don't worry guys I have no intention of changing cars or modifying my lupo to look anything like this. I would rather drive a vauxhall than drive something like that, and that, will never happen.

I come across this video on facebook and just couldn't believe my eyes, so I thought I'd share

The work, apparently, is top quality. The girl who first owned it was on here, IMO rightly so, got pee'd off at the abuse she got and decided to stop coming on.

Maybe not to everyone's taste, but one has to appreciate the work that's gone into it.

Ray I respect you a lot, but how the hell can you say that? The work in this Barry Boy shitter is no better than any other Barry car. Don't think because it's a Lupo it's better. It's still the same kind of poor quality ricer looking junk you'll see on many Saxo's, Corsa's, 206's etc:

The boot lid doesn't look flush with the rear bumper (0:45). The side skirts aren't flush with the car either, but they've painted over to hide it (0:37). Shoddy routing on the wing mirrors where the button-style indicators are, not even level with each other and visible outlines (1:02 & 2:18). The doors are a joke, you can only open them to the first notch which, while most people can get in, is still complete **** (2:03) and they look incredibly fragile when standing up in the air, which is why he opened them so carefully. The door popper system is totally impractical because you can't open both doors on the remote. The steering wheel is absolutely gross, it's all crusty and manky (2:50). Clearly removed some part of the lock mechanism, yet instead of buying the £2 covers he's just left a hole looking into the door (3:25).

The only thing even remotely worth considering on this thing is the white leather interior. I like the seats and I like the wrapped door cards.

The rest is utter horse ****.

You don't have to drive it so it's ok. That's someone's pride and joy. Is your car 100% perfect? You may have one of those fancy show cars but it may be a work in progress.

Mine isn't a fancy show car at all, come on mate, you know what I'm like. Mine is an almost stock Lupo, aside from RCL and an aftermarket Head unit. It may well be someones pride and joy, but when you modify a car, with the intent of 'getting noticed' or taking it to shows or getting judged or at least drawing attention to yourself, you should be willing to take any negative opinions that come along with whatever positives you may get. I'm sure some people think it looks great. I don't and the reason why I raise the points of the imperfections somewhat ties to what you just said. "Is your car 100% perfect?". Absolutely not, it's got a few scratches and I really need to sort the rear wiper jet, however:

Is the bootlid flush with the bumper? Yes it is.

Are the side skirts flush? There aren't any, no need to worry.

Are the indicators flush, level and free of nasty outlines? Yes.

Can I open my doors properly? Yes.

Can a 16 stone man get into my car without fighting the doors? Yes.

Do I need Lambo doors? No.

Does anyone? No, with the exception of Lamborghini owners.

Can my passenger open the door without having to find the impractical looking popper button? Yes they can, there's a trusty handle.

Is my OEM steering wheel free of crusty mankiness and excessive wear? Yes it is, and it's got 115k miles on.

Are my door cards free of unnecessary holes? Yes.

All of which I can thank the engineers at Volkswagen for. Cheers guys for my truly amazing show car :) with measurements to the nearest millimetre rather than the nearest yard.

Look, I'm simply trying to make a point. Barrying up your car wasn't cool in the 90s, it wasn't cool in the early 00's and it's not cool now. You ultimately end up with a plastic-fantastic ricey looking horror show. Respect where respect is due, the white interior is nice... but that's about it.

I have never seen the car in the flesh, nor have I scrutinised the video, but some who had seen it when first done said the workmanship was overall pretty top notch. That video is not from the original owner.

It's definitely not to my taste, but I would not knock it either; plenty of room for different directions on modding.

Unless it's a GTI of course and then there is only one route forward!

...and there are cars parked in VAG Show fields which gain lots of oohs and aahs, which are in all honesty crap, but because they are "scene-style" they are accepted.

Skezza I've never seen your car. You got a build thread. Your always handy with the diys so I might learn some good stuff. I agree with what your saying but all I'm saying is if they are happy who are we to put them down?

I must admit it looked like the work was done professionally, but who am I to say whether it is or isn't? It's not to my taste at all, but I just posted to see what others thought; I can imagine the original owner getting heavily scrutinised for modifying in this way, as I did when i enquired about a bad boy bonnet (which I didn't do, 'cos i didn't like it in the end).

However, are them lights road legal? or is this no more than a show car?

Haha, I like it! My adversion to Vauxhalls was drummed into me from a young age by my dad, blame him :innocent:

Well yes, fair do. I'm not keen on any 'scene-style' modding. My mate has just stickerbombed his wing mirrors on his Golf because they were a bit rough and it makes me want to puke just looking at them. To be fair, as far as originality goes, stickerbombing and all that scene crap is right down there at the bottom.

I need to get a build thread lol. My car isn't too impressive, fairly normal apart from RCL + the head unit which is a little bit special ;) although I've done a bit of work on it so it would have been good to have a progress thread. I actually agree with your last point, but then I counter that with: if they're happy, why are they selling it?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a qualified bodywork specialist. I have no knowledge of this car and while Ray made a point about me scrutinizing the video, I really didn't: i just watched it, observed what was in front of me and the issues jumped out at me. Anyone who thinks that popper system is practical is completely deluding themselves. More so, the fact it's been smoothed all over and the Audi frontend all had me shaking my head in disbelief. When he went to the rear, it was obvious the boot wasn't flush because of the light difference and panel gaps. The only thing I really checked twice was the side skirts which at first I thought looked kind of cool but when I watched again were clearly a bit wonky.

There is an old saying, I forget how it goes exactly but it's about the beauty of imperfections but I'm not sure that really applies in this case.

Oh, and those lights are probably illegal because they're not VOSA tested, that said, a friendly MOT tester will give you the benefit of the doubt I imagine.

Me neither haha; i didn't really get a good look because it was a bit of sensory overload for me, but i must agree that I can't really see the appeal of the popper system; more to go wrong if you ask me!

I don't really rate the audi front end either; for the simple fact that it isn't an audi- I share a similar gripe with the vento front ends on mk3 golfs.

However, i have to admire the work, and undoubtely the money, someone has poured into this car, but there is another old saying that is no amount of money can buy taste :)

right,, I had a smoothed sierra estate, which was about the same age as sophie, so that gives you a rough idea how old, but I had a secret socket ha ha! so that when the battery went flat I could at least get in. I don't know if these geezers have thought of that. from a personal stand I looked at it and thought, god, somebody has paid an awful lot of money to do all that to that lupo, it was blatantly obvious that this one hadn't been knocked up in somebodys shed. personally I don't have much time for turn key projects but I dare say that who ever paid for this was probably proud as punch, until it got posted on here ha! then I'd say they wanted to sell it as quickly as possible. but another way to look at it is it's different, sometimes different doesn't catch on. it's a bit marmite, you either love it or hate it. it's not for me. geoff

I'm not keen on Vauxhall's either. The old style Astra was one of the most boring cars ever made, which somehow resulted in an inexplicable trend to 'Barry' them up with pointless spoilers, shitty alloys and massive zooooooooorsts, despite the fact the car was probably a 1.4 litre grandpa-wagon.

I also have a friend who's just recently had a horrible experience with a new Astra CDTi, resulting in him selling it at a big loss and buying a Polo.
