Rickpercy87
My gearbox has a whine under load. I'm not 100% what the noise is but could this 4th gear issue shed some light maybe? It doesn't do it in any other gears but it does whine in them all. It also does it in fifth. I'm sure it does it in all gears.

Cheers, mate. I'm on the lookout for a new gearbox about the whine.
Jason_lupo22
Mines a 1.4 and it does it to but without the whine as well. Not sure what the whine is all about but when i say the gear stick moves when i accelerate i mean it move like half a cm. I would say its normal tbh. matt123roll
My 1.0 does it in certain gears never let it bother me. My gearbox is probably in a sorry state but until the day it blows up I wouldn't worry
Deadmetal
A bit of movement is to be expected. The gearbox and engine mounts have a bit of play in them from factory, keeps the vibration and noise down.I'd hate to think what state 10 year old rubber bushes are in.The whine could be a bigger problem. Have look at the gearbox oil level, if it's a bit low, stick some more in.Or you could try giving it a change. If it persists it could need a box. Not 100% on that though.
