Cooper_GTI
Personally, i think if you want a quick diesel, you'd be better off with a mk4, which comes with the reknowned PD lump. You can map a PD130 to be around 160bhp and a stupid amount of torque.I'm not sure about the mk3, but i think the TDI is 90bhp and i'm almost certain it's not PD and i don't think it's common rail either, so you're gonna struggle to get decent gains. ElZ 16v
so my friend told me he has a mk3 diesel that looks like a gti but is diesel he says its the gttdi and 110bhp standard he could be talking utter rubbish..and as for the engine codes i havent a clue juat no i want a mk3 tdi as i need some decent fuel economy and not haw my tiny engine screaming on the motorway aha
scotty_82
You would think people would do a little bit background before asking a question, just so they don't look silly quoting what mates say !!!!
James827
one of my buddies Just bought a Vento TDI. its not the AAZ engine, its a bit more Modern. its got over 140k on it and it pulls like a train. but, one of my other mates had an AAZ engine in his MK2 and that was also Quick. i never drove or actually rode in that MK2 so i can say about how it felt under acceleration. the older AAZ engine is easier to play with but as my mate found out it can also cause lots of problems. Cooper_GTI
I wreckon a Lupo TDI would be quicker than an equivalent mk3...Or if size if the issue, the Polo TDI.
James827
they are also MUCH more to buy and MUCH more to insure!
scotty_82
they are also MUCH more to buy and MUCH more to insure! That's because they are mostly newer , mk3 tdi ran from 91-99Lupo tdi ran from approx 99-05 I think
MiiTCH-TDi
I see a gttdi mk3 at early edition and it was mapped to about 145 bhp it was a polish guy
scotty_82
It wouldn't just be mapped to that, the map will be fuelling probably a bigger turbo, more boost and probably other work too
ElZ 16v
i dont like 6n2's and cant afford a 9n3 tdi and my mate has a mk2 ibiza so its either a mk3 or another type of petrol car and i want something relatively nippy but not costing bucket loads.. iv been told by a friend who has a 1.9 tdi that having it mapped alone would take it too 120 and a garage i asked said 118bhp on their computer program
James827
the older ones are not really electronically mappable mind..
ElZ 16v
so the older ones are just turned up on the turbo an fuel pump? you happen to know the years it was made like that?
Rich
The Polish guy got Petar (w12 Lupo) to make him a GT TDI MK3, I like it.The AAZ ran till around 95, then the AHU took over.If you want my advice, get an AHU, they're a more reliable engine, although not as easy to tune (avoid boxes) It'll be a better engine and then you can get bored and stick it in a mk2 golf. They're loads more fun in a mk2 golf, everything is. ElZ 16v
been looking at a few and there 1997 models so AHU engines? and i would have a mk2 but quite a few around my area
James827
i think an easy way to tell is the AHU has an engine cover saying 1.9tdi (if i have this right) and the AAZ is a plain engine with a small turbo diesel sticker on the rocker cover and a mechanical pump
ElZ 16v
ahh il bare that in mind cheers and im struggling to find build threads for a mk3 tdi but been told about darkside developments and how they got 210bhp from a mk3 tdi sounds mental
iMurray
Why does it matter of there are load in your area? Surely if you like the car and you are modifying it that doesn't matter?
ElZ 16v
i do like mk2's dont get me wrong but i want something that other people havent got as my mate has an abf mark 2 big bumper gti an a mk2 i could get wouldnt compare
other-power
Stage 1 chip on AHU tdi gets you to 120hp, injector upgrade and stage 2 tune gets you to ~ 135hp but then the turbo is to small.the AFN block is a VE tdi engine and pushed 110hp as standard - Mk4 golf GTTDI or GERMANY ONLY Mk3 GTTDIAHU is a good engine, apart from off the line do you need more than 120hp? I only ask as my Mk3 golf tdi chipped to 120hp is plenty and the golf weighs 50% more than a Lupo.CheersJon
ElZ 16v
120bhp would be double the power compared to my arosa's 60bhp and im guessing the torque figure will be more than double the arosa's? is 120 just from a remap? would a decent exhaust, panel filter and a remap push more or is thats whats meant as stage 2? im a novice with car tuning ahacheers btw!
