Fresco Green Machine

So then I bought my Lupo as a second car at the end of June so thought it was about time I got around to creating a member thread! :coffee:

It’s a 52 plate 1.0 SE in Fresco Green, 42k miles with only one elderly lady owner. The car was obviously totally standard apart from a weight saving modification in the way of removing (smashing off) the passenger side wing mirror. As well as adding a few scuffs she had taken the time to collect 2years of chestnut tree sap and general crud over the whole of the car.

Here are some pictures of the task I had!

You Sap! Lol…

Paint Transfer…

Weight Saving…

It took me a good 6 hours to remove the sap and give the car a full detail. The alloys were stained badly but sorted with wonder wheels! –damn it’s good stuff!

I’m a big fan of meguiars so after a snow foam and a wash out came the tar remover followed by the ClayBar, Ultimate Compound, Deep Cyrstal (DC) Paint cleaner, two coats of DC polish, topped off with another two coats of DC Carnuba Wax.

I’m really chuffed at the paint finish on the car now. Unrecognisable from when I first brought it home! Nice :shades:

Next came the interior followed by the engine bay which robbed me of another 2-3 hours.

The interior was generally in good condition, as expected for 42k miles but looked like it had not been cleaned in it’s eight years! In with the dyson and Turtle Wax ‘Interior1’ dry clean foam followed by Meguiars Interior tech protectant.

A picture of the Dyson showing the crap hoovered out of the interior ( B ) and from the engine bay (A). As you can see more evidence of the trees!! :paperbag:

I’m really happy with how the engine bay cleaned up. Before and after pictures…

With the car cleaned up i turned my attention to painting a few bits and bobs. There were a few parts in the engine bay, mounts/brackets that were looking abit shabby so they got painted satin black. While I was on- the rear toe eye, brake drums and front brake calipers were also treated to the same hammerite satin black.

This final picture shows the car a month on at the end of July, very clean but awaiting the fitting of the coilover kit I picked up on the Bay.

Augusts Modifications are to follow which involved the coilovers and a few more subtle changes…

I cant believe they let the roof get like that, what an outrage! But what a transformation! Think your hard work paid off :)

I know but to be honest i think it worked in my favour. I'm sure turning up to view and

potentially buy a car looking this tatty put a lot of people off!

Thank you, i don't mind a bit of hard work when you see results like this!

I've got the coilies on now and it looks another 100% better!

Thanks James! :) I've only had the car for a few months but it's always been here in the Durham /Sunderland/ Newcastle area.

DJ- I haven't really considered the side strips, could be a possibility tho...

I'll try and get the updated pics on tonight!

Looks excellent! I think the sensible lowering works really well.

My mum has one identical to this but with the 1.4 engine. I've been neglecting it a bit of late but you've just reminded me how good the colour looks when it's had a good polish and wax :shades:

P.S. the rear indicator bulbs are already clear, there is an orange filter inside the light. To remove it you can either melt it out with a soldering iron like I did, or cut it using a dremel. And then you can change to change to chrome or osram diadem type bulbs.

Jon: I didn't realise that about the clusters, i'll have to take a closer look and maybe do what you've suggested!

Very nice, i wouldnt mind mine looking abit like this.

I like how much you have lowered it aswell, not too much, but enough to not make it look like its way too high B)

what's the ride like on the TAs?

Canny mate. At £200 per set i suppose they aren't going to be the best in terms of comfort when wound down low. They are my first venture into the world of coilovers and to be honest i can't knock them. The rear is as low as possible (with adjusters) and the front is down to match. At this height the ride is firm but not spine shattering. At times over rough ground things can get a little bouncy which i'd imagine would be to a lesser degree with a coilover twice the price?

At just over the price of a top set of springs you are getting all the adjustability you are ever going to need. I'll echo what many people say on here- best pound for pound if you want cheap lowering!

Somebody will no doubt say they have a high failure rate, but you do get a 12 month warranty...
