LiamD
I used to skate at the same time I raced r/c cars, I couldn't risk injuring my hands or arms skating cos I stood more chance of making it big racing r/c cars and I had the odd sponsor so I couldn't risk missing big races or lose out on practice...I'd actually like to get back into racing r/c cars, there's a good social scene when you do the national meetings but it really is mega mega $$$ to be competitive, by the end of it I used to live off my mate's hand me down parts and relying too much on talent and not on expensive parts. seangreen04
how long you been mtbing? me and oh were on the scene a couple of years ago, on SDH, he was their official fotographer, i was his donkey (bag carrier, food getter) mostly seen down south but we were in Ae a few times and fort bill. Linton's pics are the mutts it has to be said. OH has since moved on to track car days (he has one and like me has a car-love brain disorder).been ridin for about 7 years now i reckon, found my old race kit from 2003 last night which was pretty funny.Yeah iv been on SDH a couple of times but generally hang round DW. After all those years of trying my ass off i picked up a sponsor last year who were really supportive as i worked for them and they gave me all the time off i needed, hence the blue and yellow kit in the pictures. Always had support at the races too and half the season had my personal mechanic, this year however i am no longer working there but still have the sponsorship and now i have to juggle my practice around uni 3 jobs and football. Linton has some amazing shots of me over the years but due to the fact i was wearing a different team shirt i didnt want to post them up on here.If anyone needs any information on adventure holidays for kids here in the UK or France and Spain, give me a shout and il give you some info. owieprone
bummer mate, i hated having to work 3 jobs at uni and still try and manage to get all my sports in too. good luck with keeping it all goin nice to see your sponsors staying with you.pity i'm not up your way i'd be your mechanic, i'm abit out of touch with the kit now, having not worked in halfords since 2004, and don't really bike anymore due to living right next to oxford. I still have my trek lq tho, gathering dust in my shed, and all my tools i didn't like DW, even tho i was up that way at the time, found too many eejits and kids on it. SDH was more adult and slightly less annoying, course helped OH was an admin on it and we know the blokes that run it I still have 2 site hoodies.are you sticking to local races or nps? what category you in? seangreen04
bummer mate, i hated having to work 3 jobs at uni and still try and manage to get all my sports in too. good luck with keeping it all goin nice to see your sponsors staying with you.pity i'm not up your way i'd be your mechanic, i'm abit out of touch with the kit now, having not worked in halfords since 2004, and don't really bike anymore due to living right next to oxford. SDH was more adult and slightly less annoying, course helped OH was an admin on it and we know the blokes that run it I still have 2 site hoodies.are you sticking to local races or nps? what category you in?To be honest buddy, the 3 jobs isnt too bad, its the amount of work involved in my uni course and the fact i ahve football 5 days a week that makes life difficult, gets really ahrd to get some training in for my up and coming race season, not to mention the fact i have lost my front axle for my forks... hmm.Yeah could use another mechnic aswell, its actually a bit of a surprise that my sponsor kept it going this year actually as i had an awful season last year, Dunkeld was the first race and it was torture, i fell unconcious after faceplanting a rock on my first run and got a flat on the second so the weekend was a bummer but PGL got a lot of publicity, at that race we had the site van, gazeebo, stall, leaflets and a support crew of around 20 so went down well. Then if i remember it was fort william which during practice was a glorius day and amazing day of riding, i was hitting the track sweet all day and putting ni some good times then bang, off comes my Sram X0 in half then trhough my wheels snapping the chain and in need of rear wheel rebuild, Few hundred quid later and the next day take a bad fall and damge my wrist, hence the bandage in the photos. The rest of the season was a bit of a blur to be honest. Glencoe went terribly as i jus couldnt seem to hit anything right...I totally understand where your coming from with DW but i kind have to be grateful for that as i when i started on there i was 13, only 20 now so i feel as i have to give some back to younger riders when i got helped in the same way. This season again is a bit of a worry, i have not recieved my sponsor money through yet and race entries go out tonight for the first two races so see how things go, may miss pitfichie but love riding the Bill. This is only my 2nd year in seniors so sticking to SDA at the moment. Maybe do the avalanche cup but need to see how much PGL are willing to fund. owieprone
Everyone has a bad season/run everyso often i wouldn't worry about it. The advertising PGL get from being your sponsor will far outweight the costs and hassle. Hope they come through for you this season The category names make me laugh sometimes, 'senior' you're 20! lmaoYou got a webpage for folk to keep track of your successes and future faceplants? If i was you i'd give up the football.. but i could be biased as i hate that sport with a vengence lol. Could you cut down on it to 4 times a week? give yourselve a bit of breathing room for mtb training? though at least it's something active rather than sitting on your arse doing work, so it can't be all bad.Aye ken what you mean about giving help to the forum kiddies, gives you a warm fuzzy feeling doing 'at.quick release axle was it? bloody things, i used to keep spares for mine in my camelbak, along side my spare tyre.As for another mech, you should advertise on DW, or go round your local bikeshops/ halfords (should they be a good one and have enthusiasts in it like all the ones i worked in) and see if anyones up for some non-paying but good-laugh weekends at races. even if they can't come for them all they might be up for a few which is some help. You could also ask on here, there must be some fellow mtbers up near you that could offer their services Alternatively if you're still biking in about 5 years time when i (hopefully) move back to aberdeen, gis a shout.
