Lee_
What are they RS/RMs? Get a picture up of the corrosion and we should be able to tell if they can be rescued.

Lee_
Splitting and refreshing mine at the minute, polishing wheel on a bench grinder leaves an awesome finish.Gonna be fiddly without splitting them though due to getting round all the bolts.Should be rescuable though. andyp
get yourself a frost kit, they should come up using some autosol or belgum (spell) stuff.
GTi T
Fingers crossed for you they turn out ok, i never ran my BBS when the bad weather came, the cold and salt is bad news for any polished rims
nfbr
A classic was to protect chrome is to mix petrol and regular lithium grease and brush it on. Its thin enough that it won't be disturbed by fast motion, but thick enough to stop the rain getting through As the petrol evaporates it will stick to the part you need protecting
heartagram
For what its worth I'd say take the tyres off, get the bolts and valves out and give them a good repolish and a wax. You'll spend ages getting around the bolts.

Lee_
Have a look through the following, whilst doing mine I found pretty much everything is covered in them. The bolts should be alright if they were torqued correctly when being built.http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?...3&hl=splinehttp://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3767257&page=1http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.ph...t=bbs+rm+refurbhttp://www.the-polisher.com/id6.htmlhttp://www.lowdubs.com/Files/howtoBBSwheelrebuild.pdf

Lee_
What sort of polishing kit have you bought?I'm using a polishing wheel on a bench grinder.I found that you have to sort of wear the polishing wheel in before it starts to workproperly. I did this with an old bit of steel which was also handy for practicing with beforeattacking the BBS.Some photo's of what I've done so far.How they were (not too bad really):After some polishing on the wheel (need to be finished by hand):Also stripped the red paint off the baskets so they can be powdercoated:Polished bolts:
