vworks41
Proberly been asked before, but what bit needs modifing to fit a lupo GTi?? is this something i could do my self??
Tallika_Fan
Hiya mate, i got one fitted to my Sport a couple of weeks ago, from the following pic you can see where it was heated up and bent, overall, probably bent about an inch to an inch and half.I took it to a local garage and got them to do it, with an oxy acetelene (sp.) torch. cools down quickly though because of swapping and changing from pipe to pipe so makes it not a quick job, would be handy if you had two of them though. border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" />

Tallika_Fan
As far as i have gathered yeah. Though it't be nice if the angle was known, could do with being angled not as much as it's currently quite close to the undershield. Trial and error i guess of different peoples setups. GAZ3256
What is the reason for changing the angle, is it to do with the position of the lambda on the new manifold by any chance? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Gaz
Tallika_Fan
I think it's to clear the sump or sub frame, it's quite awkward when fitting, was fouling on the fan and oil filter when trying to fit it.
twisty b-road
Is it because it is designed for an engine that isn't as tall as the GTI 1.6?
Tigz™
On the Lupo GTI, its the sump thats in the way.Thats because the Lupo GTI does not share the same sump design as the rest of the VW range (due to the hydrolic clutch Id guess)The polo GTI using the same sump as the Lupo sport, and also the polo 1.4 16v (what the manifold was designed for) so it fits the sump, but catches on the sub frame. No idea why, I guess its because they cost £150 and not the £600 Supersprint wanted when they sold them. Not a bad job though, easiest part of the fitting. GAZ3256
Cheers for all the help folks. Should hopefully have it fitted soon, going to a custom exhaust specialist tomorrow to let them have a look. Oh just one more question, how long roughly has it taken you guys to fit them in the past??? Gaz
Tallika_Fan
Working on my own with limited lifting capabilties from my jack and stands it took a few hours to do. (not including wrapping it, that itself took about as long as half the length of Beetlejuice style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />) My only problem still is that it's still blowing a bit, though i'll sort that out at some point. Tigz™
It took me an hour to wrap the manifold before fitting it.An hour to remove the old manifold and loosen the Alternator.Half hour to place the new manifold in the engine bay!! Lots of swearing.Half hour to remove the wrap when I realised the manifold needed heating and bending. Again, lots more swearing.Half hour to bend the pipe.A hour to cut the old system (Buy a pipe cutter!) More swearing.A hour and half to weld a flexi joint onto the Cat' and down pipe and attach the exhaust to the manifold. Two hours to make up a new loom for the lambda probe and route the wiring.Long job, but probably enjoyed it more than any other task Ive taken on. Bikerz
Isnt it just a direct replacment bar bending andi? why did u have to cut your system?

GAZ3256
Well guys the manifold is on (was charged 4 hours labour) and the difference is incredible, see power graph below, the "before" power run is in the background 15.5bhp and 6lb/ft difference Edited August 28, 2007 by GAZ3256
Tallika_Fan
Nice one, your wheel power is probably going to be my engine power! Should really get mine roaded, before i start modding other bits and pieces!
Mario Blue Eyes
Very nice. What mods have you got to get that figure? Just the manifold? Also, are there any lights on (emissions light) or anyting like that now that the manifold is fitted.Looking into one of these in the near future. Matty_Gti
sorry but i can't see the graph very good? whats your bhp before fitting the new manifold and after fitting the new manifold?also what garage did this for you if you dont mind me asking? did u just supply the manifold and then got changed 4 hours labour and thats it?
GAZ3256
The before figure was 128.8bhp, 114lbft and the after figure is 144.3bhp, 120lbft. Sounds incredible now. Got it done at Sounds of Silence, yes i supplied the manifold and got charged 4 hours labour at £25 + VAT. But had it back at them a few times since. No other mods, just a BMC (which was fitted on the 1st run to) and always ran on Shell V-power.
