How long to sell a Loop GTI

I am amazed how long it is taking to sell my beloved lupo - its had a good life from new with me - always warmed up before going for a drive, oil changes every 5,000 miles with fully synthetic, full VW history on top and even VW warranty until Oct'....

I thought 2 weeks on autotrader would sell it no problem - but it seems to be too specialist a car - it would seem the masses are only interested in tin cans like Fiestas, 206's and Clio's!? ("Whats a Lupo?")

How long have other GTI's taken to sell?.....I really wanted to see my car go to an enthusiast rather than a garage. The price (now reduced for quick sale) stands at £7,500 ono

Why are you selling it? Sometimes they sell so quick but other times, your's and Joe's black gti being great examples, they don't sell too quickly (although Joes is now sold). I'm keeping hold of mine for a while i think, it will be paid off soon, so to me its a pretty sweet car to own fully.

I'm selling as I have recently bought a property with my girlfriend and don't need (or want the cost of) 2 cars. She has a 1.0 Arosa which we use for commuting while the GTI spends 99% of its time looking pretty on the driveway.

There is no finance or anything outstanding, so there's nothing even to worry about there. Renewed on Autotrader for another 2 weeks at the very reduced price. when I was looking for a GTI I would have loved to have found one like this - especially at the price its going for.

I never have much luck on the Autotrader, Ive always sold throught the forums or Ebay to get it advertised. ive bought about 8 cars in the last year and never picked the autotrader up once.

try the usual, Piston heads and vzi. I sold my last one on vzi

All I can say is stick at it.

I tried Autotrader, pistonheads, tons of VW forums and it took about 3 months to finally sell it.

With GTi's, you need to have someone looking for a particular one, most enquires I had wanted A/C and/or leather, and as mine had neither, never heard anything back

Good luck with the sale. I really wanted Joe's when it was up, but the timing and money were wrong (my funding, not his asking price!)

Got mine 500yards down the road.

There was none for ages, now there seems to be loads of private sales.

The VW dealership ones seem to go pretty quickly though as I phoned asking after a couple on the VW used car search. GONE!

when I got my black gti it took about 3 months to find the one I wanted and I ended up going to a dealership and getting an ex demo. it sold within the week though when I put it up for sale.

I think with these and cirtain other cars they have there moments of drought then they flood the market, you will probly find in a few weeks everyone will call you.

I had to sell mine quickly as i had been made redundant from my job, could no longer afford to live in the flat i rented and owned two cars.

I thought at £6500 i was giving the GTi away,03 plate under 10'000 miles and still people wanted to knock down the price.

Hang in there, the guy that bought mine used to own a GTi and his wife was looking at buying a Mini Cooper, when he saw mine he had found the full asking price in cash within an hour.

I now live in Poland and i've seen a few Lupos here.Only one GTi and that was in Poznan.

No Aircon is a big minus on any car costing £7,500 . . . hang in there though as it has to be worth that . . .

i see what your saying as common ordinary demand can dictate a market, but the gti shouldnt allowed to be seen as a normal car market. you dont turn down a £100k classic ferrari as it doesnt have air con, so lack of aircon is not relevent to someone who really wants a gti, you can buy a cheap crap french car with aircon and save the bother of searching. as i have said before no aircon was a big feature for me buying gti, as i was preparing to spend a few hundred to take my next new car to a garage to get the aircon all dismantled and removed. was lucky to find my lupo.

I can't think of ANY good reason why you would want to remove air-conditioning from a car . . . please don't tell me it was to save weight as frankly that would be sad huh.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

I think lupos are abit specalist full stop, mine was on auto trader for 2 weeks, and had a few phone calls, a few people came to look, but no offers on her and I still have her. £3700 for a Sport with only 35K on the clock is a bargin.

saves weight. is totaly not needed.

any car is better without it.

'saves weight' - so what? unless your Lewis Hamilton you don't need to worry about that.

'totaly not needed' - consumer demand says otherwise.

'Any car is better without it' - so that's where they went wrong with the Bugatti Veyron . . . wacko.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

No offence intended but I feel that at the price I have reduced this car to air con isn't an issue. When I bought the loop I didnt feel the extra cost was worth it for the few hot days we actually get in this country - its a personal choice....but £7500 for a 54 Reg, full history GTI is a very good asking price.

Also, yes I agree that the Lupo GTI isnt a car you buy for the amount of gadgets or features it has....the money is in things like the one-off body & aluminium panels, the overall build quality and quality of materials, the fun driving experience it gives - its completely unique.

What other forums could I advertise on? I have tried clubGTI, pistonheads, club polo and the (so far, so useless) autotrader.

your pointing out what you expect and what a casual market of car buyers want, not what is actually best in a car.

a veyron of course would be better without air con. it depends where your heart is. just like to me a single seat veyron would be better than a twin seat veyron.

have you tried a selection of upmarket/specialist independent garages, like ones that sell rare, exclusive, sports cars. they may pay you a good price to take the car off you. negotiate aswell with them.

Tried a few garages but they all said prefer 'bread & butter' cars....(boring cars that are easy to sell) but thanks for the tip - will do some research into that.

Can anyone recommend some other forums to post on? I only really used this one.

Try Edition38.com

Also as others have said try some of the VW specialists like Volkswizard. http://www.volkswizard.co.uk/

To be honest air con wasnt an issue for me but I live in the North East of Scotland.

Probably just a bad time to sell, everyone saving for holidays etc.

Im afraid you will just need to bide your time looks like a nice car at a fair price. It will sell, just that sometimes buyers for GTI's can be as rare as the car, probably sell it then ten people will post up wanted ads.

Good luck smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Just spoke to the guy at volkswizard. He has the grey one I saw on here and said although he likes the model things are a bit slow to move overall anyway. Maybe it is the time of year.

Hopefully it will rain soon so people will spend less time in beer gardens and more time looking at my car on the net!
