Ryan5257
Recently brought my vw Lupo as a first car and had to do loads of work on it so far, my most recent problem is that it's running to rich still? It had a decat and didn't have no lamba sensors or anything like that so was drinking petrol I recently put a cat on it and brought all the sensors and fitted a new exhaust system and it's still running a little rich, I plugged in the dionostics kit and it says rich tread bank 1 sensor 1 any ideas? Ryan5257
Literally all it says when I plug it in it just says rich thread bank 1 sensor 1, I didn't know what I meant that's why I asked on here,
mk2
I dont think it'll mean anything to anyone on here... But i could be wrong! "Thread" "bank"?!?! Its not a "V" engine. And as for thread.... Anyone know much about sewing machine motors? Ah, no, that's the Daihatsu forum....

Mobieus_uk
have you tried disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU, if its gone from not having a lamba sensor to then having one it may need to relearn and make adjustments as this sensor checks the oxygen in the exhaust system which is a really good guide to whats happening with the combustion process
Ryan5257
I will try that for sure great idea thank you:)
mk2
Have you managed to make any sense of the error codes?
Ryan5257
Yeah it's this - P0135 is the OBD-II generic code indicating the engine control module (ECM) has tested the O2 sensor heater circuit and has detected a problem with the bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor heater circuit. O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 1)
Ryan5257
Basically it's my sensors what knackered then,
lupogtiboy
For what its worth, Bank 1 Lambda sensor is pre-cat and Bank 2 is after the cat
Mobieus_uk
has this been fixed yet, if so what was the cure
lupo 1.7sdi
Bank 1, Sensor 1 = pre-cat Bank 1, Sensor 2 = after-cat Bank 2 is for longitudinal engine with two exhaust manifold. https://static.cargurus.com/images/site/2015/03/24/19/52/pic-3585884633758656484-1600x1200.jpeg
Ryan5257
Should I have two sensors or should I only have one? Because I thought that I should have to I should have a pre cat and then one for my cat? I haven't got round to solving it yet but will be changing the sensor when I've got spare time,
Ryan5257
Because it's sensor one the cure should Be just to replace my pre cat sensor then really shouldn't it?
mattarosa
Yes the cure is replace your pre cat lambda sensor, they breakdown inside overtime and can be finished off by a sudden jolt, ie pothole, mine went just before an mot, the dealers said try running it and if that doesn't work replace. You may also have seen a decrease in fuel economy.
Mobieus_uk
I don't know what the connections are like but if possible have you tried swapping the sensors to see if the problem moves, if its possible and the problem moves its a safe bet its the sensor, if it doesn't then its more likely the wiring
Ryan5257
I'll try that first thing tomorrow I'll swap the sensors over and see if that fixes it:)
Ryan5257
Took the sensor off today and waiting for a new one to arrive so I can fit it, this is the state of the old one,
mk2
That's black... Should be a pale brown colour (like spark plugs). Running rich...
Ryan5257
Yeah that's the reason I'm changing it, had a decat on before,
Ryan5257
Changed it today it isn't running as rich trying clearing the code and it won't clear it keeps coming back on? Ideas?
