How many previous owners would people be happy with on a 2001 lupo gti with 110k on clock?

As said elsewhere:

Depends what you are happy with and the service history really. I'm the 3rd owner of mine, but had it since just 2.5 years old and 26k. Full service history with dealer until I bought it then VW Specialist.

Really depends on the owners, if you have had 5 owners who have spent money on the car and looked after it, it's got to be better than 1 owner who bought it new and got sloppy with servicing after a couple of years.

Jon_273 bought such an example from a "spoilt little girl", but he's spent time and money pulling it back together.

The less the better surely?

+1 with Ray. Buy on condition not age or mileage.

The gti is a weekend car (don't know why) for alot of people so they might only keep it a year or 2 and remember the car is 14 years old.

I think I'm the 6th owner on mine, an '02 plate. The girl who had it before me only did about 10k in 3 years or so but aside from service stamps and MOTs I've not really got any records of how well it was maintained during her ownership. The bloke who owned it before her on the other hand, from the random invoices I've got, seems to have only taken it to a VW garage and spared no expense!

Of course but seeing a GTI with 13 owners since 2004 should be bringing up red flags.

Always buy on condition, my Arosa Sport has 120k miles, no history and lots of owners but the interior and exterior are mint so the car has been cared for. By condition I mean how it drives too.

I'll second that...

The trouble is that many people tick the new keeper box on the log book when they don't need to. So when passing it between family or friends, the number of previous keepers keeps going up. When you buy it, leave it blank and then number of previous reorded keepers stays the same.
