  1. Evening, I need to get 4 replacement carbon fibre look centre caps for the OZs on my GTi. I have looked at eBay but there only seems to be expensive ones from the states. Have messaged OZ and one of their distributors in Leicester but got no replies. Any one got a contact that can help. WS
  2. Have you checked the battery? If a glow plug is not operative, you get a cloud of smoke out of the exhaust when the engine starts. WS
  3. Sounds like a back fire in the exhaust. Usually caused by an leak in the system. Check the exhaust and look for tell-tale sighs of soot. WS
  4. Check the wiring particularly the multi plug to the injector wiring harness. WS
  5. Just be careful that the brake balance is not changed. WS
  6. Good afternoon, I have a GTi with an AVY engine. I have to replace the gasket between the oil cooler and the block. I have it all apart after removing the exhaust manifold and am having trouble with the replacement supplied by TPS. Part number 036 117 070. I can see how the larger part fits but cannot see where the small O ring goes. Nor have found the old one! I am having problems with loading a picture! Anyone help? WS
  7. Is the pedal firm? The new pads will take atleast 150 miles to bed in. Have you checked the effectiveness of the servo. WS
  8. When you had the gearbox out did you check the state of the clutch? WS
  9. You really need to get the error codes from the ECU, or else you will just be guessing. WS
  10. The common theme with all these faults is a wiring issue. I would check the plug into the ecu and the earth points for corrosion or being tight. WS
  11. Its the socket to access the ECU- reading error codes, changing various operating parameters and installing a new engine map. WS
  12. Do you know if there are any codes stored? Where are you based? WS
  13. Katie, I would check that the right grade of oil was used. If it was the wrong one then this could cause low oil pressure at idle. Also check the filter. WS
  14. Does the film, if applied to the rear, get *uggered by the heated rear window? WS
  15. If you fit one, don't use the silly metal fastener. Try getting 3 of the nylon nuts that hold the windscreen washer bottle in place, I have done this on mine and it works a treat. WS
  16. You should find it: sticker under the carpet in the boot sticker on the upper cam belt cover sticker in the service book on the V5 Hope this helps. WS
  17. Mine's a '54 plate with 25k on the clock. WS
  18. I don't think it was a good idea to remove a battery lead when the engine is running. It may be that the diodes have been damaged. To test the alternator set your meter to DCvolts at the nearest scale above 12 volts and connect red to +ve and black to earth with the engine running. 12,4 volts on an unloaded battey, after leaving for atleast 6 hours would tend to indicate that the battery is not fully charged. WS
  19. If there isn't a fuse for the interior bulb it is probably on another fuse. Has anything else stopped working? WS
  20. If I understand your post @ 2:26 I would change the spark plugs. If it is valves, then the misfire would not move when you swop leads/plugs. WS
  21. Probable causes for the misfire faults are: Spark plugs HT leads Injector(s) Ignition coil(s) low compression wiring How many miles has the car done? WS
  22. Really need the stored error codes. This will tell the whole story. WS
  23. I can't find anything on code 41797 in my Code Bible. Any luck sorting the car out? WS
  24. Are there any codes on the ECU? WS
