  1. time for an oil change methinks??? if you can smell oil your breather is probably blocked
  2. i've allways used mintex pads on my cars with no problems at all, they aren't necessarily the best, but they are good value. the brakes on the tdi are exactly the same as the sport model, but be sure to check which type you have, becuase some of the later models have a wear indicator, you can use the pads with the wear indicator on both types, if the indicator isn't needed just cut the wires off

    manifold

yes they will fit most, but it depends on which engine code you have.... some of the later engines have two lambda probes, the original manifold has a cat inside and there is a lambda probe before and after this cat, this is a potential problem, but physically it will fit
  4. it depends on what type of caliper it is, but most of them need to be would in with the correct tool, unlike the front ones which can be just squeezed in with a pair of water pump pliers border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> the tool looks like this.... the different size mandrels are for different caliper pistons but to honest you can sometimes get away with not using one of these and just use a big pair of circlip pliers to wind it in, but in most cases the dust/crud build-up is too bad and they are really difficult to turn
  5. yeah, they are virtually the same scot, but you need a special tool to wind the caliper piston back into it's housing... you arew very welcome to borrow one of these from me if needed, or failing that i can give you a hand if you get stuck
  6. iirc the ahb was the 120hp version used in the late 6n polo's (97-99?) for the european market, they never found thier way over to the uk.... esentially they are the same as the 'normal' lupo gti engine except they dont have variable valve timing. all of the other technical info/torque settings will be the same as the lupo gti engine.... there is another 1.6-16v engine which is also 120hp but i cant remember the code off the top of my head at the moment
  7. a vr6 is very compact for what is it, quite tall though, and very heavy.. these Tsi motors are very wide. i doubt if there is enough space..... but i could be proved wrong here!
  8. you will need the ecu too, the tsi motor uses FSI injection system which will cause you major headaches without the oe ecu.... also i doubt very much you'd fit this engine in a lupo, i've seen one of these, and small they aint
  9. to adjust the camber properly you need one of these beasties border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> the camber needs to be accurately set before any wheel tracking alignments are done.... most garages dont have a camber gauge, and also in my experience the garages that do have them dont know how to use them either

  11. i would give the throttle body a good clean with some aerosol carb cleaner, then have it reset bt sombody who has vag-com back to it's base settings
  12. the firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2 but the wasted spark system allways fires to spark plugs at once 1 + 4, 2 +3, the 'wasted' spark occurs on the exhaust stroke and therefore has no affect on the engine. the lupo actually uses a batch fired injection set-up where all 4 injectors are fired off every revolution, this has the advantage of only using smaller injectors with a lower flow rating, on modern cat equipped enigines it doesn't actually make much difference what type of firing sequence you use for the injection, the only general exception to this is in supercharged engines. however rover use the 1 + 2, 3 +4, semi sequencial injection on the k-series engines to quite good effect, the only thing seen on a lot of 'hot' engines is fully sequential injection where only 1 injector fires at a time, hence 1 single injector only fires once every two revolutions. which ecu are you using?? emerald m3dk??
  13. £400 ish for an engine???? fitting it and wiring it all up is the expensive part
  14. that's an inpection window so you can see the TDC timing marks on the outer edge of the flywheel........ please dont pour gearbox oil in here!!
  15. the nuts on the outer end which hold the link onto the track control arm are just standard M8 nyloc nuts. there are two rubber bushes either side of the track control arm which might need replacing too! and the bolts that hold the inner bushes are M8x16mm
  16. not true.... both the 100bhp and 75bhp versions of the 1.4-16v engines have the same clutch
  17. another way to loosen them is too whach the centre of the brake disc with a copper faced mallet to shock it into moving, then they noramlly just unscrew easily
  18. oh blimey! i'll dig out a photo of one when i get a chance

    Gearbox question

yes you can fit them, but you will need the clutch and flywheel too

    Rated Omp

another thing worth looking at is the OMP sump guard kits
  21. a mate of mine has a 2001 model one which has a rod change box
  22. that brown gunk is just the waste by-products of the combustion process mixed up with a little oil vapour, normally this gets sucked back into the intake and re-burnt, but with the breather disconnected from the air filter it just ends up all over the top of the engine
  23. iirc, last time i checked, you cant buy the morrors already painted, they come primed ready for painting....
  24. which polo?? 6n?? if they are from a 6n polo, the front ones will fit, but th rear ones wont
