  1. the temp will drop when you open the heaters on hot as its taking heat away from the coolant when you changed the stat did you leave the heaters with on hot with the fans open when filling it back up with coolant if you dident that would cause air lock also when you took the stat out was it stuck closed ? also on the coolant tank can you see the water circulating ?
  2. yeah same type of tensioner just a long spanner and pull the tensioner down to remove the belt
  3. take the head off your self if you feel up to it and see what damage there is
  4. you have to take the cams out to do the rocker cover gasket
  5. 19/5/2012 Newbury on the Burger King roundabout round 19:10 Sweet Ride where did you get those deep dish rims ?
  6. yeah it was the bottom one was abit of pain but must be worse while in the engine bay no room . yeah they do it too save money just make i fit then not worry till someone has got to fix it
  7. yeah drill bits are a pain in the ass but i had to use them .. when i took the belt off the cams moved as well when i put the new belt on i had turn one of the cams slighty to line it up with the mark as well tho the worst bit of the job was the threads were gone in the engine block for the tensioner bolt so i had use a helicoil kit .. not sure why the did use a blance belt they should of just done one single cambelt
  8. yeah done mine just the other week but my engine was out on the work bench when i done it but was still abit of a pig and must be even worse doing it while engine is in the engine bay
  9. haha yeah the rear engine mount is a rubish desigin remember having problems with that when i took the engine and gearbox out last month .. yeah much easier to remove driveshaft flange .. can still seeing it being the final drive bearing failing making the whine noise and 4th and 1st gear being hard too select .. not much luck with gearboxes and cables lately then
  10. lost 4th and 1st chances are final drive bearing has gone like it did on mine and destoryed the box .. but check with the box off and see if you have gears but the whine does sounds like bearing failed . seems the lupo boxes are made of chocolate
  11. whining while driving sounds more like bearings worn in the box , is it just 1st which is hard to put into ?
  12. sounds like something is knocking like a big end bearing which is never good :S .. engine looks very lumpy like its miss firing what they do suffer from but you say it suffers from cutting out at idle speed which could lead on to idle control vavle being sticky but the knocking is a big worry i must say.
  13. Commercial vehicles still have springs in the friction plate and the clutch plate has a diaphram pretty much the same as a car clutch but a better build
  14. only whining in 5th box out then and stripped the 5th synco has gone .box is not to bad to take out
  15. i was looking for a box for my lupo can get a recon round 450 and second hand box round 300
  16. timing could be out leaving valves open on compression cycle .. head gasket gone but does sound like timing miles out when you done the rocker cover and took the cams out did you time it back up and check the marks ?
  17. take it out on a long drive and stay in the gears longer and see if it happens with other gears then 5th but then if it dont and does it only in 5th then synco is gone
  18. does the whining happen only in 5th gear or all gears ?
  19. sounds more like cv joint if you turn right and your getting knocking noise .
  20. iv had the same problem once with my polo i put a new clutch on it and it started whining couple of weeks later and stopped with the clutch pedal down .. does it wine on idle ?
  21. depends is your starter motor on the front of the box or at the back of the box ? and is the gearbox code the same ?
  22. i had that problem in my astra needing at 6th gear .. but not too worrried about economy now
