  1. there is absolutely nothing right with them in my eyes mate; they are cost-cut Euroboxes, no better than some jellymould made in Korea etc. etc.; no soul at all - and a 36 yr old man with almost twenty yrs experience of driving, and not just VW's, kinda knows what he is talking about, i've loved VW since before the mags and the 'net - i take exception at been called "generally ignorant" you clearly have no people skills chap - it's pretty much a fact that nowadays VW don't build great cars - that was the past - the greats are all history i'm afraid, and i should know, i've owned most of them (i'm talking about you mk1/2 Golf GTI and Corrado VR6...) the Lupo GTI was good, but not "great" and the MK5 Golf GTI was a good comeback to be fair, but hey, that was after many years in the GTI wilderness..doubtful i'll stay with the brand after the Lupo GTI i currently drive - nothing in their range floats my boat anymore, sadly...it's like the end of a love affair for me
  2. Amen to that comment - just had one as a courtesy car all week - asthmatic engine, ridiculous size!!, cheap build quality and a black mark against VW for ever building it - shocking car - only redeeming quality was it cruised the motorway well!
  3. yup, good will gesture Bep - car has a full VAG main dealer history (bar last two services) knowing full well the price of work from quality bodyshops, i was willing to stump the dollar up - i was convinced from the off they were gonna reject my claim, so not too bad a result i reckon - a compromise, yes; but it was worth the cost in my eyes and the car is damn tidy again
  4. Hi All just had VW Wolsey in Ipswich repair my GTI through their approved bodyshop, Rackhams - I had corrosion starting along gutter on drivers rear. Saga started about 6 weeks ago when I was detailing car and noticed gutter towards rear of drivers side was starting to bubble - I went into Wolsey VW armed with the knowledge from this forum, and they were very helpful - i came back a few days later and was greeted by the bodyshops manager, who photo'd and paint depth checked the area - he did comment the centre section of roof had been previously repainted, but all other paint was orig, and due to the corrosion starting on the outer side of the gutter, it shouldn't be a prob getting it approved. I then waited about 3-4 weeks for a call from VW (i had to chase them up in the end) - was told the claim was still "pending" which was a good sign i was told - got a call a few days later saying they agreed to sort if i contributed 30% towards the total bill - i said o.k., then got a date to book car in - got another call a week odd later saying that they didn't want me coming back in 6 months with the same issue on otherside of roof, so agreed to do the entire roof - i said o.k., dropped my GTI off last monday and was given a Fox to run about in for the week - got a call on friday that car was done - went up and collected and Rackhams have done a lovely job - it's Flash Red and thety have matched it very well (plus valeted the car) - i'm very pleased with the work oh, and the 30% contribution amounted to a bill of 253 quid...which i can live with as the job has been done to a very high standard (and the roof was marked with old bird sh*t lacquer woes anyway) ..so, bit of hope there guys and girls
  5. this same car has been on and off pistonheads FOR A YEAR! it was 3300 previously, via another owner, and had a smashed/scuffed front bumper and electrical gremlins if i remember right avoid unless you really know what you are doing
  6. nice one mate - these clampers are vermin - thank god the law is been adjusted to put them in their place i'd have not had the patience and probably done what Scotty suggested!
  7. Essex Police = ****s known fact round these parts; always have been, always will be lol! why can't you censor the "c" word on here ha ha
  8. can't figure how some of you guys get through toyo's so quick! my old mans 174bhp 205 gti gets 20k out of a set, no problem!!! they've lasted so well, he still on the old t1s's! he hasn't even used the later t1r's yet, let alone the px4's - i've used t1r's on my last 3 cars, all pretty tuned up and had no quick wear problems, at all ..and no,i, or my dad don't drive like pensioners on a sunny sunday arvo p.s. eagle f1's are the nuts in my opinion - best tyre i've ever used - supreme driver confidence; worth every penny rainsports aren't bad for a budget either - i used 440's back in the mid 90's for a mk2 gti and was impressed - although,to be fair tyre compounds have probably moved on some from "back in the day" ha ha
  9. i live just outside Felixstowe in Suffolk - we've got some great b roads near here
  10. i cycle a mountain bike every night, 7 nights a week usually, in ANY weather - i only missed 2 nights this yr and last 'cos the snow was toooooooo deep - longjohns are the key, good gloves and beanies, and THE most important thing has got to be a waterproof, breathable jacket (i usually wear a fleece under that, and a hoody and 3-4 t-shirts under that - i love cycling more than driving t.b.h. - it's my exercise regime and i love it; the weather is a minor distraction - heavy winds are the worst part, i can handle the cold and wet fine as i just chuck on waterproof trousers over my jeans, and my jacket is unreal at keeping out the wet p.s. little green giant - i hear you about the "beardsicles" - been there too lol !
  11. i went from a tuned vr6 corrado to a 230bhp mk4 gti, and i much prefer my lupo gti now...why? reminds me of the mk1 gti i had for ten yrs - light, tiny hatches are just pure entertainment to drive everyday; can't go wrong

  13. only way to get any justice in this country is to go and form a vigilante group - that's what will happen eventually over here on a mass scale if the "justice" system isn't reformed soon...no-one has the sack to make a big decision anymore in the U.K. it seems; pathetic really..
  14. ....mines an '02 and it's got a 5 speed!
  15. my gti has been awesome in the snow too - nice and low, and on standard fit dunlops last yr was a nightmare in my old mk4 - it was on it's arse on 18" bbs's and a 'mare in the snow - had an r32 front bumper that did a great impression of a snowplough lol
  16. well, i'm 36 - so anything over 30 would be close to qualifying i reckon
  17. if i fart near my budgie, she twists her head round in a "what the hell was that?!" pose lol p.s. if Zombie was good, Linger was the killer tune from the Cranberries
  18. just found another dub in a '95 issue (showing my age here ha ha) - Nigel Grimshaw had a tidy mk2 gti in grey these guys defo had the dub love!
  19. giggity gigg to the degg mmmmmm! yup, classic Jap tuning madness in that dvd lol gotta love it
  20. my gti has a k&n panel filter...see Awesome GTI's website
  21. amen to that mate - do u remember the red mk1 golf gti they gave away as well? ..come to think of it, they had that "tango" orange tsr performance tuned 2.0 16v corrado with a reiger bodykit they gave away too - v.a.g. fans maybe? Fly, the Gregs and Emma were legends in their time - i've still got a few of the video specials they released back in the day, like "beasts from the east" - 1200bhp Skyline in that if i remember right.. ...like someone else commented earlier, probably got me into playing about with cars as well Max Power was the nuts...then came "The Golf" and "Performance VW" and i was seduced by V.W. lol sad day though when Maxxie goes..it was a British institution in my books
  22. man, that's a dif choice!!..i own a red loop gti near identical to yours, and i have owned two rados (a 16v and a vr) and also a mk1 gti for ten yrs...and i STILL find myself lusting after another corrado even though i know they make no economical sense lol..but then saying that, with the price of bits for the loop gti been so high and often hard to obtain... ....ah sod it, sell the rest, keep the rado - 'cos nothing drives and looks as drop dead gorgeous as a rado does, and that g60 you have looks a great base, espec in that colour
