  1. If it's just the actuator, get yourself down a scrappy, you'd be surprised how cheap the boot locks go for.
  2. I'm thinking that the error showing up might be a red herring. An airbag light illuminated doesn't always trigger an error I thought?
  3. Without being funny shadow, I've asked plenty of questions on here without being abused. The only time I've ever been abused (By scotty of course ) was when I put a stupid thread up... so I think it's fair to say that most of the time people get abused when they put some really stupid question/comment up like "who's got the fastest Lupo on Club Lupo"... then can't understand why people are calling them a sausage jockey. As above, 6n2 Polo is probably your best bet. If you do go ahead with this project why don't you get a build thread in the members section? You're very likely to get more advice on their than just asking people to PM you nuggets of information lol.
  4. It's certainly not impossible. I imagine the doors are all the same design, as such have all the necessary cavities in which you could place the motor and regulator etc etc. All you might need to get is the wiring loom from another fox + parts of course and perhaps enable it in the ECU?
  5. I don't get this with directline. Which is annoying because there has been more than one occasion I've needed to drive a friends car... for various reasons. I think I get it when I'm 25 grrr. If you can't get it, it might be worth taking insurance out for the day on whichever car you need to drive. I know it's expensive (About £20 day but if it's very important it might be worth it) I'm surprised you get this gatesy, I thought the youngest you could be to get this kind of perk was 21, certainly not 19 but that's pretty good I have to admit!
  6. Perhaps use a thicker oil? I don't know what the standard oil is in a Lupo gearbox is.
  7. Have you not bought one off eBay? They're only a few quid and while they aren't brilliant they'll read codes off I promise. By the way, your mileage is ridiculously low!!
  8. I'm pretty sure all Lupo's came with the boot dash light lol. To be fair, it's useful. It may well have been unplugged off due to the switch failing. They certainly have a tendency to pack up.
  9. My central locking unlocks the boot, which is lucky really because the lock itself is either knackered or horribly designed, probably the first. You can't remove the key if you unlock the boot using it. It seems to just stay in, and I can't understand why. It means that shutting it properly is borderline impossible because the key is obviously there. Nightmare, no point in fixing it while the CL locking is working. Touch wood, christ touch wood, if it fails I'm ****ed beyond belief.
  10. There's a few companies that manufacture products for UK market. Many of them are bought and then re-labelled via various brands in the UK. Like I said, a certain big company, let's just say they're a bit like a supermarket for cars, sold one that got rave reviews in magazines and on the Internet and when people from the net looked and traced back and researched, in fact, they'd simply re-labelled a product from the company that happened to manufacture mine. Where do you think I got the idea from lol? I'm not saying the sound quality is as good as say a Pioneer or Kenwood but the Sat Nav, on mine at least, is absolutely stunning. First class. Far better than any phone, dedicated sat nav device or built-in car sat nav I've used before. I could go further into why that it is, but I'll just leave it at that. Sound quality issues can be hardware based, but they're usually software based. Pioneer, Kenwood, and various companies write excellent audio processing software to ensure the sound quality is first class, but I imagine the hardware they use isn't spec'd that higher.
  11. That's interesting. I could do with a photo of where you had it welded to get a better idea. Thanks
  12. I can say with a fair assumption that it's not your head unit causing the problem. All head units draw 12v and I think have a maximum of 10 amps, which they never get anywhere near using. Your head unit certainly won't be causing the car to cut out (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone). Sounds like it could be your alternator, or even battery, but I've never had it happen on me so I'm only going on guess work.
  13. The speaker wiring isn't already there to begin with. Not on a pov spec anyway. I think it might be on any S, perhaps? Maybe? **** knows, I'm sure someone said it was lol. No idea about the Golf steering wheel, but someone told me that a VW MF steering wheel fits Now that would be sweet!! Good choice on the SDI by the way. You'll be impressed with the fuel economy I assure you. Even when you thrash it, it's quite hard to get lower than sort of 60 MPG lol.
  14. All opinions, but I find the menus on the MFD prehistoric. They remind me of old entirely Menu Driven interfaces from the late 70's and early 80's. Few devices that use Menu Driven interfaces remain, mainly medical equipment, but they are the worst thing in the world to use and also to diagnose when they go wrong. The Sat Nav is a bespoke application, which will always suffer the same problems as any other bespoke sat nav application. I've listed them a number of times in other threads. As you say, horses for courses, but for me, certain China 2Din's are not given fair credit. If you buy anything from the right company, you'll be satisfied. Don't forget, iPhone's are made in China, most major brand head units are made in China, Indonesia, Malaysia. Very few are made in Japan or Korea nowadays. The problem is most people buy them from Chinavasion or fleabay where they really are naff, so yes, the opinion of the Internet is a little bit warped with regards to China 2Din's. I have one in my current Lupo, and I had one in my previous Lupo (Both from the same manufacturer) and I assure you the supposed stereotypical build quality issues are greatly exaggerated, well, at least in stereos from these guys. I haven't had one fail, as of yet. The old one actually survived the crash as well, and I still have it in my garage waiting to be either sold or fitted in another car. Like I said, if you look for the right company, you won't always be disappointed and these guys aren't like Chinavasion. For one, they build them in-house, which actually allows them to develop fairly unique designs from both software and hardware point of view and also provide a reasonable level of quality control. They also have a warehouse in the UK, for repairs and returns... which fortunately I've not needed to use yet. I know for a fact they previously had quite a large contract manufacturing a 2Din Sat Nav head unit for a certain big shop in this country. It's all opinions at the end of the day. I tend to stick to the 'you pay for what you get' rule, but I work in technology as a job and you'd be surprised how little the gap between cheap and expensive is. It's certainly not as wide as price tags make out to be. Anyway, I don't know much about the Audi Sat Nav, so I'll keep quiet on that one.
  15. I see it parked up outside your house (I assume) every day on the way to work, and coming home from work. The other day you spotted me when you had the bonnet up, I gave you a thumbs up but don't know if you saw! Figured I better get a post about this up because I keep bloody seeing you lol! Very smart by the way. Looks really welt kept! Not sure I can say the same about the other car though! Sorry mate
  16. 59 minute bug is what newer VW radios get in older cars like the Lupo. They switch off after the 59th minute because they expect a canbus signal (?). I know that someone on on MKIV's forum fitted one using a special adapter he custom made or something. I don't remember how he got it working, but it seemed like an extraordinarily large amount of work for not much gain. If I remember the end result wasn't that nice either as the new ones are curved so he had to trim some of the dash. Yikes, don't sign me up. Edit: If the routing is anything like the MFD then you'll be disappointed, however I just had a look and the actual unit itself looks really nice!
  17. I was always told rotten egg smell was the 10 out of 10 sign of a catalytic converter gone pukey.
  18. Isn't it canbus? You'll have the 59 minute bug I believe.
  19. Apologies for not adding anything relevant to the question, but I can't understand where all of these people are coming from who want OEM+ head units. The MFD1 is catastrophically bad compared to some aftermarket Sat Nav HU's. Even a China 2Din pisses all over the MFD1. The menu is horrific, the sat nav is dreadful (Due to my explanation in another thread) and due to it being short term product, it's now as good as unsupported (Excluding the new sat nav CD's). I guess if you want a VW badge fair do, but I just don't get why people like them. You can find various aftermarket head units that look almost OEM, you just need to know where to look.
  20. Would you mind posting the link to that. I'm quite confident mine isn't to do with that and with a bit of luck, so is jamjars. Yours was quite bad by the sounds of it.
  21. Maybe I will philplop. I actually think it'd be pretty cool to have one hooked up with the Classifieds, eBay Searches, Twitter Searches, etc etc. I'd want to do it right though because I think rendering HTML pages inside of an app looks **** (see the Lloyds TSB app). There's so much that can be done with an app that really can't be done with a web browsing experience. I'll have a think of something for a Club Lupo app
  22. My word, reading that, I thought Rich's brain had imploded.
  23. I'm still on the side of aftermarket. You can find black ones that look pretty OEM when flush with the dash, but up to you.
  24. Yes, I think the RCD200 fits. You'll have to make sure it comes with the code.
  25. Might do my own tutorial lol It would be useful: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/126257-octavia-1-replacing-door-latch-microswitch/ http://www.gruvenparts.com/website/diys/Door%20Locks%20Explained%20-%20MKIV.htm http://www.taligentx.com/passat/maintenance/doorlockmechanism/ http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=77648&page=4 http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=77648&page=8 http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1542461/page8 http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1542461-MKIV-door-locks-explained-why-you-re-having-problems!!!-(/page22 These links above will be useful. I'm still nervous about getting the lock out, but I might just give it a whack. Bit nervous like but can only hope lol
