Mark230
Bought a set of hubcentric 15mm spacers for the back wheels. Fitted no problem, but I noticed quite a bit of rubbing on bumps and cornering Got in contact with ArchEnemy and £110 later both rear arches rolled. Really happy with the work, the guy came out late on a Tuesday night to fit me in! Brilliant service! Car runs perfectly when it's just myself in the car, but I take my housemates to work every day and the rear passenger side is still rubbing. Starting to chew into the tyre sidewall which makes me sad My tyre profile is 205/45/15 which is probably the reason for the rubbing I'm thinking of buying a set of coilovers as my current shocks have seen much better days. Looking to keep the same drop at 40mm all round, been looking at FK AK Street and Apex (already have apex springs dropping it by 40mm) any suggestions?Drivers side doneBeforeAfter Dad's new toy
Danyutz
Good to know that 15mm on 7.5j rubs, i'll be safe on 6j Are you ok with 205 on tires, i know VW recommends 195 for 15". Speedo is a bit off, isn't it? Edited February 10, 2015 by Danyutz
Mark230
The tires should be 195, but I wanted extra tread so went for the 205. Speedo is fine with them as far as I'm aware

Mark230
So I gave in and bought a set of AP Coilovers, lowered down to 40mm, the ride feels alright, not a massive improvement from just lowered on springs and I can't remember what stock feels like Rear passengers arch is still rubbing badly, so decision is smaller spacers (if can get the 15mm ones off) or camber shims? Any thoughts? Front:Rear:
Mark230
Took the car for a service and MOT to a Seat dealership... MOT failed due to "silly small steering wheel" - genuine comment from the mechanic Apparently the vehicle has to still have all the airbags that were fitted when it came out of the factory, news to me seeing how it's passed the previous 2 years at a VW garage.Looks like I'll be going elsewhere for my custom now... Silver!
From the AA Website: http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-servicing-repair/mot-changes-2012.htmlSupplementary restraintsThe vehicle will fail the test if any airbag fitted as original equipment is obviously missing or defective.A seatbelt pre-tensioner fitted as original equipment but missing or that has obviously deployed will be a reason for failure.Seatbelt load limiters that are missing where fitted as standard or folding webbing type limiters that have obviously deployed are also reasons for failure. The vehicle will also fail if a Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp indicates a system malfunction. Silver!
...also here: http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s05000401.htmReason for Rejection1. An airbag obviously missing or defective.Note: A passenger airbag that has been switched off is not a Reason for Rejection2. A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp indicating a system malfunction.
Mark230
Cheers for the links Silver!I don't fully agree with it though, but I suppose its one of those things that you need to swap over just for the MOT. Gutted I sold the original wheel now

Reedo
am i right in thinking if you have a 4point harness you dont need airbag and can have a "silly small steering wheel" ?
Mark230
am i right in thinking if you have a 4point harness you dont need airbag and can have a "silly small steering wheel" ?I don't think so, as Silver! stated, if the aitbag was fitted as standard then it still needs to be there for the MOT Took the car to another garage yesterday, and it's now passed, happy days! Mark230
Repainted the calipers, couldn't decide on the colour, so decided to go for hammered blue and smooth red combo. Might not be to everyone's taste, but its different Was also able to give the car a proper wash at the weekend while topping up my tan! Mark230
Been a while since I've posted, car hasn't had much love the past few months Moved back to Glasgow in July, thankfully had the coilovers fitted, might have been a bit too much in the back and on the roof! But I finally managed to get a day free last week, so took out the centre console and air vents, sanded down and then painted gloss black - something I've been meaning to do for a while! Also plasti-dipped the grab handles as the peeling was starting to annoy me I've got some parts for sale really cheap if anyone is interested, here's the link:http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?/topic/101856-sports-interior-front-bumper-all-glass-windows-and-various-interior-parts/
Mark230
Haven't posted in a while, not really had the time to do much to the car. I did manage to have the door cards trimmed in leather, with matching blue stitching. Also painted the door plastics to freshen it up a bit and new window switches from Skezza as well Had to make custom grills from aluminium mesh for the rear door cards Gearbox is starting to feel a bit rough, struggles to get into first and there's a lot of play when its in gear. I've read a lot on the forum about other peoples problems, so I think I'll need to start saving up! Edited May 26, 2016 by Mark230
Mark230
Been thinking about removing the CAT for a while, but thought I'd see what everyone's thoughts were on it. Gains and loses? I know it'll fail an MOT, but I'll make sure the CAT can go back in with a drop pipe or something if needed. My mate is pretty good with a welder, so making a boss for the lambda sensor will be easy So... worth it or not?
Mark230
Well after all the useful feedback above... ... I decided to take the CAT off. First off was to remove the CAT with a big grinder, then measure out a section of pipe to fit the space and mark where to make a boss for the lambda sensor. Then welded in the lambda sensor, welded a flange on the top end so it could be removed easily and then coated the pipe with rust proof heat stuff The exhaust sound has improved, pops on down shifts after a decent drive and generally sounds better. I've noticed it seems to produce more pull at the top end of the revs, but have noticed 20 miles less out of a tank of petrol (either from decat or my right foot... ) Edited April 20, 2016 by Mark230

Mark230
Not been in a rush to sell - far too busy getting a flat sorted in Manchester for the new job! The Arosa is still for sale, and it's got a new friend in the driveway! 13 plate Ibiza 1.2 TSI FR Much bigger boot space, and more economic for the grownup commutes to work Not as quick as the Arosa, or sound anywhere near as lovely, but that will change soon hopefully!
