GTi Si
I disconnected my battery for a couple of hours over the weekend. When I reconnected everything and went for a drive the ESP light on the dials lit up for the first time!I never usually see it, the ABS light and all the other light up and go off as normal. But I never see the ESP light come on when I start the car.Is this normal or will I need to book it into VW again? When serviced nothing was mensioned.S
Snoopy
Do you have an ESP button?Sounds like a glitch in the matrix...
Snoopy
It was definitely offered as an option in the brochure when mine was bought, but the same brochure claimed the GTI had front `fog-lights`, so I don't know what happened if you tried to order it... GTi Si
No button.................My dealer won't know so asking here. The symbol is in the bottom right of the right dial. It looks like a triangle with a curved arrow around it.It is shown in the hand book..............S
zippy
I thought ESP was only an option on continental Lupos...I presume that the light would feature on all clocks, albeit unused.
bossjohnc
ESP is standard on all continental GTIs, but they're the only ones you'll find it on. Was never an option for UK loops. As snoop says, it sounds like a glitch in the matrix!
GTi Si
So just ignore it?S
bossjohnc
If your car's under warranty I'd get them to check it out.
LINCOLNSHIRESLUPOGTI
My ESP light has never been on during driving. However a fuse blew in the fuse box a while ago and the ESP warning light came on on the dash.It is an orange triangle with the circular arrow around it.Didnt try driving with the light on or I could have tested if the ABS, EDL still worked with the light on or not! tdwindustries
with no button you cant have ESP, so I say ignore it!
tdwindustries
BTW - I had effectively no battery, when the car died it also displayed every single light on the dash in turn, including ESP.... never come on since fixing the power issue
GTi Si
Sounds like an ECU reset issue then.It is under warrenty..........and will be extending it just to be sure!S
tdwindustries
so is the light on all the time?
Snoopy
Yeah, there will be a fault code somewhere in the ECU that's causing it to be lit. Assuming a fuse hasn't gone.

tshirt2k
When you disconnect the battery it does come on. You also have to relearn the one touch windows too. It should disappear after that tho'
