another week, more progress. After talking to the engine supplier it was found the the shells were shot on the engine and it was going to be quicker to replace the engine. So i picked that up the other day and dropped it off with the garage.

So today was a quick stop by the garage to prep the car for the engine change to speed things up a bit and to save a couple of quid on an hours labour, and we are now like this

so if everything goes to plan, the engine should be in by friday!!

ok, so the engine swap has been done and we found that the battery was shot to hell, 3 days on trickle charge and still couldnt start the car so a new battery was fitted and some new HT leads. the garage got bored and pulled the old engine appart, and they found a list of faults, including that the engine was rock solid as the coolant in the cylinder had rusted the piston in solid! so tomorow we should be fully up and running once again!!!

oh and on a brucey bonus, the water leak in the driverside footwell has gone away, looks like the water shedders need replaced in the doors lol!

well the heart transplant has went well, the garage has had it running today and said " its firing on all 4 and sounds as sweet as a nut" and that it looked like the car had recently had a clutch done on it so another brucey bonus! they checked it over to make sure its selecting every gear and it looks like they need to adjust the cables slightly as they said its clipping reverse slightly so they are going to tweek it tomorow :D so all being well, that should be done tomorow,

weekend tasks

- rebuild the front end and realine headlamps as the passenger side one was slightly recessed before i took the front pannel off

- put the right size tyres on the new 14" alloys.

the tyres that are on are something like 175/60/14 or 175/65/14, either which way they are rubbing on the arches so im picking up some 185/55/14's. Hopefully that will stop the scrubbing and then we wont fail our MOT on that lol!

I will admit i know its going to fail its MOT on the following

- headlamp alinement

- wiper blades being shafted

so hopefully no more than that lol!

ok not much to report from today other than we went to test drive it and the clutch isnt wanting to clear reverse, so ive went and got a new clutch for it as well so a new Valeo clutch kit so hopefully that will resolve the problem as it was clearing reverse before the engine swap so its going to be something daft lol! so the clutch is being done on monday,

The tyres on the new 14" alloys did confuse me a bit lol! i thought they were 175/60/14 but they rubbed on the arches which i thought was odd as the standard tyres are 185/55/14 for the arosa's with 14'S. so i thought arse to it and went and picked up some part worn's for it just to get it through its MOT and found that the reason why the tyres were rubbing as there was 185/65/14's on them LOL! so the new tyres are mounted and on the car :D

little by little i am getting there with this car!!!

cheers ben :D

ment to say, ive started work on the door cards ;) the standard cards are a bit worn so im recovering them, think Miss OLW is wanting something jet black or to that effect. we also have the new fabric for the headliner :D

one of the Cupra.net boys that i know that stays just along the road from he has offered his services in machine polishing the car as well to bring it back up quite a bit :D

They are Golf wheels aren't they? Probably still the Golf sized tyres. Sounds like it is getting there. Wipers and light alignment should be cheap compared to all the other work you've had done!

I used to have a link saved for how to align headlights. Using coloured tape, a wall and a measuring tape. Mind for the MOT the alignment is supposed to be checked with two people in the car so it's best to line it up with a passenger too. The garage my Mrs uses charges £2o for headlight alignment!

the new wheels were on a lupo before, just a uber odd tyre size so ive battered them up on gumtree to get rid of them LOL! oh man, is it bad that a set of wiper blades and the head lights being out of level isnt even registering on the list of things that even a problem LOL! besides £20 is nothing compaired to what has been spent so haha! all in the name of rescuing another wee arosa from the big scrappy in the sky!! mind you, once we get it back theres nothing needing done for atleast a year so lol!

typical!!! the new clutch goes in, and the car clears reverse and changes gear perfectly, and now we have hit the electrical gremlins....

problem : - the indicators are jammed on ( not flashing but constantly illuminated ) so suspect the relay has died and also that the remote central locking does not seem to be locking and unlocking the car. you can unlock and lock the drivers door with the key, and unlock the passenger door from the inside door handle then you can open and close the door from both sides, but you have to lock it from the inside door button. im suspecting the key fob has came out of sync with the car. HOWEVER that does not explain how the two buttons next to the leccy windows doesnt control the doors either.... please tell me it isnt going to be hte cental locking pump...

ok we have dug into this problem a bit more. the relay for the indicators checks out fine so we worked about the indicators being stuck on and started looking at the central locking and pulled the central locking fuse and some how the indicators went off....

so with the fuse out we tested the indicators and they had gone back to normal.. so the fingers for both problems look like they are pointing straight at the central locking module causing the problems...

any one know if i can get a second hand central locking control module and then get it coded via VAGCOM to the car?

again after more digging and a thank you to dale, it looks as if the central locking control module has a fail safe mode that it looks like it could have triggered into locking the car down. so i just need to find somebody with vagcom in scotland to reset this fail safe to see if that work.

other issues, the boot handle has decided that its not going to open the boot even with the key so im now on the scrounge for a new boot handle as well ( a remote central locking on, part number - 6K0 827 565 E )

ok after some scrounging arround ive not been able to get a good second hand boot handle so that we can get the car through its MOT and worry about the central locking later after we can get the car back on the road. turns out that the rear boot handles are different between the standard car, the central locking car and the remote central locking.

the original central locking part number was 6K0 827 565E but it has since been superseded by 6K0 827 565L. down side to not being able to get a second hand one was that the price of a new boot handle was then going to be £75ish :( sad times. ive been hunting ebay all week and couldnt find any of the right type and then today at lunchtime i found the right one, brand new, but advertised at £35, but made an offer of £30 and got it :D so another 2 days and it *should* be here :D then we can get MOT'd lol!

hey mate, sorry forgot to update what was going on. Rather than forking out £80 on a new boot handle, i found a brand new one on ebay and made a cheeky offer and got it for £30 :D by the time it arrived ( should have been wednesday but thanks to crimbo, it arrived on friday ) so its with the garage just now so *should* all boading well be back monday or tuesday :D
