Oulton park trackday

Recommended Posts

I want to be there its just money! It will be an expensive day for me and with a ring trip in may i need to make sure i can afford it!

ah i'll let you off then, its not worth sacrificing the ring for oulton park if anyhting goes wrong that makes sense.

Yeah, although they were more expensive than I'd have liked :(

Gonna have to hang on till I get paid this weekend and see how the financials are doing, as its a 5 week month ad with the wife's and my own birthday in the next weeks its gonna be an expensive one.

Theres a load of us who are building Loops at the moment, Pete is building a Arosa GTI conversion, with a Turbo from two Porkers (dont ask! lol) which should be pretty rapid.

Theres a chap whos using a Cooper works changer, forged internals and some other bit and bobs on his Lupo GTI thats almost done.

Mitch has just mapped his Lupo with Polo GTI engine on throttle bodies. Once the heads been machined so the cams fit, that'll be rapid for a N/A car.

Paulbin has a Supercharged Sport, although I'm not sure he'll want to track it as he's built it too pretty.

There's a chap from Wakefield way who has almost completed a 20v into a GTI.

Couple more 20v projects on the way.

A 75hp Lupo with a 20v...

There should be a good selection of nippy Lupos around soon :)

Well i'm glad to report the trackday went very well. lots of very fast machinery and the brakes survived. 'touch wood' i'm still grinning as i allways do and i'll post up some pics when i get the time. The lupo handles much better on the bilsteins and the group n discs from kam racing did a valiant effort of shedding some of the 95mph into the island and shell corners. The good year eagle f1 tyres had loadsa grip and spent a lot of time squealing. but the two of us driving the car couldnt forgive its instability under heavy braking so either a brake bias controller is needed or some willwoods on the front to sort it.

while it wasnt the fastest there (up against numerous porsche's, exiges chaterams purpose built racers etc) 90% of the cars there were tweaked. we managed to overtake a few cars but didnt stand a chance against the high powered machinery.

it would of been goood to see a few more lupo's though next time!!

yeap i've left my work a bit in the **** cos i didnt finnish all my tasks before i finnished. but i dont care as i had a great day today. the lupo can now chalk two oulton park trackdays off in very different conditions. but as last time i was suprised to see the clio sports really strugling both times now ive been able to pull away from them.

i spent the whole day getting overtaken lol .... well i managed to overtake a few.........need more power!

or a bit of instruction I've overtaken allsorts and never get caught up easily I wish I'd seen this earlier I've always wanted some company I went to one that dubclique were all going to but only 1 person turned up and his car was out of action for the whole morning and my brakes gave up after the mornings sessions so i went home where are you doing next I think it's time to get the summer trackdays going again

What did you overtake?

check out www.trackphoto.co.uk for more pics!

i managed to overtake a track day prepared fezza zetec (still had drum brakes on the back so cant of been that hot) a fiesta st, i passed an exige (on an experience day so doesnt count), i was trying to get past an xr2 turbo but the driver refused to move over (see above) i was keepin up with a suprisingly fast escort (at one point) which had trackday tyres i think it was the 1.8 gti erm we got past an integra type r that wasnt driving very well and i spent a few laps reeling in a alfa 155 v6 and a couple of others that i cant remember exactly

its most likely to be oulton park again but i'm tempted to try donnington too but it doent seem that easy to get on trackdays there?

i've contemplated every time getting instruction but the freind i go with (who i shared the car with this time) used to design the gtm libra and he's done more trackdays than i can count so i take instruction of him, and by paying atention to other peoples lines in similar cars and se where they get it right or wrong.

your confidence in the car and your general talent does make a huge difference to how fast you can actually go though i've found. the level of confidence and commitment makes more difference than expensive tuning bits and you feel better for it.

nah definately not, just when the faster cars come up they bunch up a bit in the corners and thats where the photographers lurk lol

most of the cars were trailered there so that gives you an idea of the level of other cars out and about
