Thanks for the comments guys, been some good points for me to consider :D

Im not really bothered about the banter at work, things like that don't bother me so thats not a worry at all.

Someone said can i not stretch to a turbo? It would be lovely too but ill be borrowing to pay for the car so keeping the costs down would always be a bonus, the turbos go for a bit more than the N/A and the insurance is also 300/400 more a year so thats what is swaying me to the slightly cheaper N/A

Ive been on the owners club and have been looking at common problems and overall they seem to be pretty bulletproof, im aware of the heaters being rubbish  and the locks freezing but like max said none of that would matter when its a sunny day with the roof off

Im looking at the owners club each day in the for sale section, seems that some of them are going for as little as £7k, i think if i had £8/£8.5k i would pick up a good condition n/a with the common problems fixed.

Thanks for all the input guys

Oh, and above all, just look at them, things of beauty! Unfortunately I may have to sell mine this year to fund the new pad; I''m just doing my sums first though as I dont want to get rid.

How much? I want a yellow one! :D

Max do you know of any specialist garages which have VX220's? Ive heard of purelotus and adrian blyth (which isn't too far from me)

Are there any others to have a look out for? I like the yellow ones too but ide prefer red or black :D

i cant believe the vx220 is swaying the majority vote.................are you all mad???

yes lotus practically made it but choosing a boxhal over an S2000 is plain daft!!!

you cant argue with the S2000's vtec, its pin sharp handling, japanese build quality not to mention not a single vtec has gone wrong. The S2000 looks far better sounds far better and goes far better.

not to mention vuaxhal are in trouble at the moment as its owned by gm and their on the brink of colapse.

tbh i dont even think its a fair comparison, the vx220 is probably better compared to an mx5

I drove my mate's VX220 turbo. I've never had so much fun in my life. The power delivery was phenomenal, handles like anything and is actually quite cheap to run (my mate did Kent to Wolverhampton on £20 fuel sitting at 90mph on the motorway).

Have you driven a VX/Elise?

you cant argue with the S2000's vtec

Well, you can - not everyone likes it. Its an "all or nothing" engine.

its pin sharp handling

Seriously, VX/Elise has the S2000 licked for handling - there's a reason they're labelled as possibly the greatest handling cars ever made

japanese build quality not to mention not a single vtec has gone wrong

I'll give you that - although the VX's are hardly unreliable, and they're very cheap to run/fix. Less to go wrong.

The S2000 looks far better

I think thats a matter of opinion, I prefer the looks of the VX, although I do like the S2K

sounds far better

In VTEC, I agree.

and goes far better

On track, the VX (NA) would have the edge. On the road, nothing in it. The S2k wouldn't see which way a VXT went, but that might be a bit unfair to compare those two.

not to mention vuaxhal are in trouble at the moment as its owned by gm and their on the brink of colapse

Firstly, Vauxhall will never go under, they're too big, they'll just get bailed out. Secondly, I don't think any VX owner goes near a Vauxhall dealer!

tbh i dont even think its a fair comparison, the vx220 is probably better compared to an mx5

Actually, the MX5 is more comparible to the S2000 than either of them are to an Elise/VX....the latter two are roadworthy trackday cars, the former are GT/Roadsters.

the s2k is pretty bad on fuel.

i don't have to pay for my own fuel, but i regularly get around 22mpg.

i get approximately 200 miles out of £45 of optimax.

i have stretched it to 300-320 miles out of £45 once on a very long motorway trip from watford to liverpool at 80mph most of the way.

if you are well behaved you could expect around 220-240 miles per tank usually.

Fair enough mate.... I'm driving on the road..... you can't be using all the gears then? 3rd is 90+ in Vetec.... Maybe thats why your using so much fuel? :P Your going to love replacing clutch and tires and brakes on your car.

I get enjoyment from potting around in my car.. I don't feel the need to rag it in every gear to prove how fast it is. Driving like that will lose me my license! Thats another reason I like having a soft top... You can get enjoyment out of it driving with the roof down... i love the looks of the car and the ease of use and want to keep it as nice as possible. Also its not good for your car to redline it all the time... High engine revs will increase wear on your engine and other components. ie gearbox, clutch /diff and transmission. Thats not including tires and brakes etc. I did all that in m last S2000!

If i had a fast coupe or Hot hatch then the only fun I would get is driving it as quickly as i can.... I don't feel the need to do that in my car.. I use the vetec for over taking and the odd blast up a straight road... Its like having a boost button. I can't be bothered driving everywhere as quickly as possible.. I did that on my bike and i ended up almost getting banned for a serious speed and dangerous driving. People on the s2k forum all think you need to redline it to 9000 + rpm to get fun out of it.. They say theres no point you having it if you don't do it. Or ''your driving like a girl''.. Well they all must be driving like cocks then IMO. Just because you have a powerful car doesn't mean you are any better than any other road users. I often admire the way Porsche and Aston drivers just cruise about all the time.... I don't like the try hard look at me approach to driving. I plan to move up to a Porsche in the next few years...And hopefully the S2k will be worthless and I will be able to keep it too... I love this car.

I'm not sure about any other specialists; I do know Adrian Blyth are very expensive though!

I'd have a look on vx220.org.uk in the for sale section. Chances are you'll be able to track the cars history going through the sellers posts.

Ive been looking on vx220.org.uk pretty much everyday and just now theres been a thread made about Adrian Blyth which is lucky, ive been told its pricey but the quality of the cars are very good which is what i want obviously, ive also been checking the for sale ad's but nothing seems to have come up yet.

Im willing to wait for a good one so i guess ill have to watch the site everyday :D

I'd stick to private - either take someone with you who knows the cars well, or get it inspected. Plenty of specialists around who'll do it.

And the last few cars I've bought (ITR, GTA) have been from owners forums, and both were very well looked after. You need to watch out for the fanboys who think their car is "awesome" and worth 2x the going rate, but otherwise you usually get a better pick. Less risk too, I feel, especially if they're well known to the forum.
