r44my_k
Does anyone know much about these? The price of them has dropped pretty low so im thinking of selling the tdi(if your looking to buy a tdi PM me) and buying one of these or a similar car for similar money. What are they like to drive? Do they cost a deadly ammount to run? Iv read a lot of reviews and stuff but id just like to know what the clublupo croud think! Thanks
Steve TDI
I'm guessing that the 140bhp one is the newer shaped one. All I can say is have a look if there are any forums like this for them and have you had a look to see what Parkers have said about them?http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/summary.aspx?model=933There is a dissapointed one round here that thought he could get away from me I took this pic as we were waiting at the traffic lights to show my mate who is called David Audin
Adam K
they are slooooooooow.what is the point of a sporty looking car that does 0-60 in almost 9 seconds?it would get stomped on by a lupo gti ffs, and they aren't even quick! r44my_k
thanks for the reply guys, adam im only a 20 year old child, and i havent got much money(can i have a free haircut?) The fastest car iv driven is my arouser really. Are there any other cars than i can get on the used car market for 3-4k which is in the same leauge for insurance and the same kinda car(good looking IMO, reliable etc etc) that you can recomend? I was thinkng of an mx5 at one point but i dont know if i could live with the 2 seats, my parents still use me to cart them around. Have you driven one? Are they realllllyyy that slow/boring? Thanks Edited February 8, 2009 by r44my_k
lupo_1.0
mate if you are after a mx5 get the mk1. 1.6 they are slow to start with but so much fun to drive. you can get the Greddy turbo kit for them for around the 1k mark. that will give you close to 160bhp but with a emerald ecu or the Greddy E-Management with a remap you will be looking close to 200bhp. but there are a few other parts you will need like exhaust, fmic, bov, oil cooler and then its best to use mx5 1.8 injectors. this is what i know so far not 100% sure but thats what i was looking at doing. there are other things that could do with changing at later date i.e the cluch as the stock is good for 6psi so iam told. and really dont worry about miles. they only seem to run in at the 100k mark. i was looking at getting one for a drift car, but if the mx5 is pre 94 its best to change the rear end from a later 1.8 (torsen).but all i know is 200bhp in something so small is fast. so for around the money you have you will have a nice fast little motor. heartagram
Celica are pretty slow tbh. I followed one once and it didn't gain anything on me, turned out it was a friend of a friends car and he had been asking if the Lupo was a GTI or something. We were both surprised it kept up wit hthe Celica. They are pants though, my mate used his mums when his G40 broke and he hated it. I'd say go for an MX-5, I'd love one but its always the fact that I couldn't live with something so small. I struggle with the Lupo, but an MX-5 would be no good for me. Not unless I had something more practical for when I needed practicality!
LiamD
Buy a Corrado if you want a fun but slow(ish) coupeThey don't look as hideous as the Celica either.

r44my_k
Dont really like the look of the corrado anymore tbh, The main issue is insurance, im on my mums with direct line and i want to have my own policy for this next car, but i can transfer the no claims, and for a lot of cars they wont even insure me. I even cant get insured on 147 deisel ffs! I would deffo love to have an mx5, and i can get insured on one but as i say i need to have back seats to cart my family around when they need me to. They help me out with insurance costs and stuff so they need to benifit from me driving! The kind of car i would be comparing to is the couger, the 2.0 one which is even slower and aparantly handles worse. The celicas are ment to be fun to drive from what i read, and i think in the rite spec and colour they look great. Im obv just gonna have to test drive one. 140bhp in a car that dosent really weigh much more than a sport tho? how the hell did you keep up? clearly the club lupo croud dont like the celica! lupo_1.0
what about a mk4 golf gti. the 180bhp with a remap? can get them for around the 3.5-4k mark now.
vworks41
I personally think the celica is a nice looking car, with a design thats aged well and still looks fresh today.Performance wise...i would say its sporty with bullet proof reliability that you always get from Toyota. You could do alot worse thats for sure!! The Mazda6 TS2 is worth alook to.
Adam K
I wouldn't say 8.7's is slow!! about good average performance really.I suppose every things slow compared to S2000 you don't know me. i have been riding bikes for years. in relative terms i'd say an S2000 is slow compared to my old R1 or Ninja 636. i don't big up the s2000 particularly, there are plenty of cars that are faster, but i like the manic feel of the s2000 when it's in the vtec zone.i'd say 8.7 secs to 60 is slow, it's not even warm hatch territory.for £3-4k persoanlly i'd be looking at maybe a mk3 ibiza cupra.http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...icleRegLetter=Xan easy 200bhp available for very little money, and look nicer than a golf, and are less common. vworks41
i'd say 8.7 secs to 60 is slow, it's not even warm hatch territory.Sorry disagree, i'd say thats luke warm territory. Plus 0-60 times aren't a true measure of a cars performance anyway....but thats cool, each to own

Cant get insured on a puma, 318, 320d, 147 etc etc. Iv never been on a motorbike or driven fast cars, I have never driven a car that can do 60 in 8.7, I wanted to see if anyone had experience driving the celica, if they were fun, reliable etc, not to tell me that the stats of parkers make it a **** car. Thanks for your input anyways. A mazda 6 is a great idea as well i think they look pretty good and go really cheap, mite have to test drive one of them as well. Anyone owned or driven one? Thanks

The 0-60 would be quicker if it wasn't for the 6speed box and having to grab 3rd before you hit 60mph.Theres so many nice motors out there at the moment for good money, I'd have a had time choosing thats for sure

Anyone owned or driven one?ThanksI'v been looking for something for daily commute and drove one about three weeks ago.It was a TS2 which was really nice to drive, well balanced and quite peppy.Driving position was spot on and plenty of room to. Alex_225
Mate of mine had a Celica with the 140bhp engine. It wasn't the current shape but one of the last of the old shape but had the newer engine. Seemed like a good solid enough car didn't set the world alight performance wise but was nice looking and well built. Reliable as far as I'm aware as well. r44my_k
I paid the deposit on a celica now, it didnt feel that fast when i drove it, but i didnt want to give it too much beans on the test drive. Overall tho it felt great to drive, loved the position and the steering. I kept revving it too much when setting off because i havent driven a petrol car in over a year so that was really annoying, but im sure il stop that after an hour or so in it. Just waiting for the plate transfer off my Arosa now (which has been sold to steve tdi!) and then steve can have the tdi, and i can get my celica! Cant Wait! Not looking forward to filling her up tho! Il post up some photos and a little review in members rides once i actually have the car, but for now here is the link:Clickeyfsh,2 owners, first being toyota, it has the style option pack which costs 1500 new (which is crazy because it only adds the different spoiler, the nicer wheels, aliminum pedals and a better sound system) Its the face lifted model (only just) And i will be paying 4k for it. Anyways just thaught i would let you all know

Steve TDI
Looks good mate. I was going to say that you'll not have to train it up to Newcastle but then I saw the phone number and the postcode. It's from up there anyways. Ah well.I'm really gagging for your car it's unreal! It may be due to having bold tyres, small number plate on the front and soon to be no TAX in 4 days but I doubt it. I just really want to "**** Off" in it. £30 for 300 million miles YEAH!!!!
