mcrdave
Hi,Just a quicky. Does anyone know what I need to do if my water temperature icon starting flashing (behind the rev counter)? It started halfway to work this morning, I don't have the manual with me and have to drive the car home. The temp gauge itself hasn't moved from dead centre, so I don't know whether to be worried or not!I'm going to check the water level tonight when I get home, just to be on the safe side.Any help, greatly appreciated!chaaarsDave Edited November 19, 2008 by mcrdave
Defcon5
Sure its not oil temp?
mcrdave
errrr, good point! I always thought it was the water gauge... oh dear. So it's def oil then!? If that's the case it's probably warning me the oil's low, as the service light came on a couple of days ago too. hmmm. cheers
Mike_M
Check all the levels of oil, coolant, brake fluid etc to cover all bases.........these should be done as a weekly check anyway like tyre pressures etc, but so many people dont! mcrdave
Yup, v true. I is guilty! I don't check these things as often as I should...
LJ51NXX
Pretty sure thats your coolant level guage. Check the level. If the levels fine, then you may need a new level sensor.

ben.g
this happened on the SDI this wkend.I've heard it could be waterpump issues? can anyone shed anymore light on the problem and is it safe to drive? assuming all levels are fine. Please help
Mike_M
You can get faulty sensors too, as they do perish.I was getting a warning on my Audi S3 yet everything was fine. Sensor was changed and warning went away
northwick
It might not be a problem though. Mine came on in my TDI when I came off the motorway after a sustained period of errr... high speed. I topped it up and its been fine since so I assume that the water pump started to leak after doing 30 mins at 3800+ revs.
northwick
PS It had lost nearly a litre of coolant though so be careful driving too far with it low.
GT_Aiiii
id say thats coolant level. It used to flash up on mine quite often as the rad was leaking. As soon as i topped up the coolant it went straight out.
ben.g
i'm gonna check it all out this evening and fingers crossed its just low.just weird how the light comes on but the temp gauge stays in the middle as it should.
Defcon5
Does it measure coolant level or pressure or both?
GT_Aiiii
I think it measures coolant level and temp. If the level is low i think it flashes. If it overheats i think the light then stays in permanantly.
northwick
If you don't lose too much and the conditions are right then the temp might not rise - the radiator etc is just working a bit harder to keep less water cool.
ben.g
i put just over half a litre in last night and all seems fine
mcrdave
Mine only seems to do it below 5 degrees, has been fine the past week or so. Dodgy sensor I suspect.
