Roof checkers

Right, I’m thinking of getting checkers on my roof, don’t want white though, I was thinking more aviator or gun metal grey.

Just wanted to know how it is done, Are they stuck on, or sprayed? If they are stickers, are they easy to fit on a convexed roof? Do they bubble/crease?

Also, where I can get them? Do you buy them in kits, or are there places you can take it to get it done? And how much roughly would it cost?

Thanks smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Satin black vinyl on black car. It's subtle. I had it done when I had the windows titnted to cover up a scratch on the roof. Each square is individually placed and positionned to allow for the curve in the roof. Some corners overlap (at the back), some dont' touch (front corners), but it's a smidge and you only notice when you're looking for it.

As for cost, probably £100 or so, a sign place should be able to sort it out for you.

Yeah, a vinyl place or sign/decal maker should be able to sort you out no probs. Or you could try it yourself.. buy a roll of vinyl (won't be too expensice) guilotine up a load of squares and slap 'em on. coffee.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":coffee:" border="0" alt="coffee.gif" />

The problems you would encounter with chequers is that with them being individual vinyl squares they would be prone to the edges catching when being washed etc.

Also there would be issues with the paint that isnt covered fading then when you decide to take the vinyl off you still have a chequered roof.

I would be getting in touch with a vinyl/sign company and asking them if they could print you a chequered pattern on a single piece of vinyl, this way the pattern would be constant and a good look and easier to apply.

I would stay clear from DIY'ing it as i'm sure it would be near impossible to get a good constant pattern without air bubbles/creases etc. Its a job done by pro's for a reason.

how does it react to getting wet while washing or rain etc?

and is it easy to come off if wanted or does it damage the paint?

it dirties really easily but washes easily make sure you use laminated so its about more durable and shinny, make sure u polish it with silicone based polish or it will turn grey
