AndyW
Bloody hell, and here was me thinking this was going to be simple. Local VW dealer still can't give me an answer as to if they can adjust my headlights for use in France, they are contacting VW and waiting for an answer. Clock is ticking though!I remember asking about this before and I don't think anyone has ever had it done. Their service manuals are saying leave well alone at the moment. bossjohnc
Argh! I was going to show you how to do it when you were down here! You need to play about with the less easy to find white plastic adjuster screw on each of the lights. This adjusts the angle. The other one does the height.
AndyW
Thats cool John, I wouldn't have been confident doing it myself anyway. I will pass on your info, I'm sure they'll be surprised as they couldn't find the adjuster, despite me telling them approximately where it is. Fills you with confidence eh. BridLupo
Can you not just use beam benders? So long as you got them can't see the french pigs can say anything
tshirt2k
thats not gonna change the dip pattern tho'. It only moves it left and right.
Loopy Lupo
erm - this is a bit weird - but, my bro in law was in the forces in germany - he bought his car through the forces car buy scheme - picked it up over here and had to have lhd xenons given to him for use in germany - as he was leaving soon he never fitted them but this would kinda suggest they are non adjustable - unless of course someone made a feck up somewhere? bossjohnc
I thought the second screw changed the tilt on the beams, and the other screw changed the height??
twisty b-road
Agree with John, best to cover one light over, do it in front of a wall. Adjust both screws, one does height one does biasDon't go mad there's an upper and lower limit.Eh John? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Edited September 19, 2005 by twisty b-road
Loopy Lupo
might do mate - i'm just passing on what happened with matt's loop - might be that the stealer gave him bum info? (not unlikely) or that the forces make you have em?
bossjohnc
Don't go mad there's an upper and lower limit.Eh John? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /><{POST_SNAPBACK}>Errm... yes - there was a design change on later xenons which enforced an adjustment limit. If you reach the limit, the deflector should "pop" back to a higher/lower setting.Or break... if you're me. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
tdwindustries
My dealer told me you cannot change them and LHD and RHD units are different.... but ETKA can confirm or dent this pretty quickly!
N13CAH
ETKA has them listed for left hand drive only and right hand drive only. So this would suggest that thay can't be adjusted.
bossjohnc
cripes, that's a little bit of an oversight in the design!
Loopy Lupo
yep it does seem a bit of an oversight - i'm sure the new beetle xenons can be changed literally at the flick of a switch behind the unit.
BridLupo
feck the french then just take it as it is. You could nick some french plates when ya get over the other side then they won't even bother pulling you
AndyW
Cheers for the replies guys, first chance I'd had to come back since yesterday.VW rang today and confirmed what you guys just have, they cannot be adjusted. Which seems highly weird.Ah well, all my other documentation is in order, so it would be the only thing they could pick me up on. Should the gendarmes cause me hassle I'll refer them to Bernardette Pissedhistrousers. He will then threaten the French with a VW invasion army and the French will run away like the cowards they are. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
