Central locking issue

Hello just a quick one if anyone has any Ideas.

When I open the car from the driver's side only that door opens but when I unlock from the passenger door it opens the driver door and passenger door.

I've just changed both door lock mechanisms and still having this issue could it be a fuse or broken wire somewhere any help is always appreciated. 😁

Thanks

Kieran

I think you can actually program the thing to do that via VCDS. But never done it. @Skezza knows the central locking system inside out.

If you turn the key to unlock it again, after you've already unlocked it, does it open both doors and boot? I've seen Golfs, Polos and Boras with that wierd feature.

My boot central locking is not connected due to a key issue too so I open that manually anyway, I was thinking if it was a relay under the dash or possibly a dodgy wire in the driver's door.

Ah, ok. Then it sounds like a classic case of the lock microswitches having gone out to lunch. Try swapping the lock mech assembly. Or better still, fit a cheap RKE system and bypass all the key thing.

It'll either be the lock module or the wiring... It's usually the lock module, although the wires can get splinched on rare occasions. It's a dead simple system on the face of it. A reflection of the times ultimately. You can repair the lock modules if you've got time (take apart clean up switches and touch up solder) but honestly, I wouldn't bother. You can pick them up on the internet, aftermarket for about £20-£30 inc shipping. They're fine and they're probably a lot better made.

@Skezza Hi thanks for the advice I've replaced both sides and still haven't solved the issue another key issue I have with this is if I open my driver's door the passenger side remains locked and cannot be opened from the inside or remains "deadlocked" so I have to go around and open it manually, I'm looking at the CCM next if I can find it under the dashboard, it seems a simple look wont find it as I suspect the dash has been out before and maybe some parts haven't been replaced in the correct areas. 😮💨

Another fault I found on similar vdub lock mechs is that the little motor inside the mechanism that does the locking stops working. With everything else being perfect. It works on a gear cam system, a bit like a ball point pen press button thing. Press on, press off...

The motor is a DC, commutator type with carbon brushes. There are 3 coils on the rotor (i think- can't remember) and sometimes the soldering connection of one ends of one of the coils gets disconnected from the copper commutator. Heat the joint with a soldering iron and a dot of fresh solder- fixed. Stupid, annoying problem. Open heart surgery level  work to fix it.

I found/discovered the fault  by connecting a light bulb across the motor, which lit up every time I locked or unlocked- but the motor wouldn't run.
