look like the powered steering hose has sprung a leak, whats the done thing, cut it all back and reconnect with jubilee clips and high pressure hose or replace the whole hose, it look like one big piece with no connections other than connecting to the pump and im guessing the steering rack

I'm considering the possibility of deleting the power steering setup, has anyone done this before, apparently it will squeeze a few more mpg

a quick check shows a can keep the rack just drain the oil and cover the connections, then its a case of remove the pump and source a shorter auxillary belt, should be simple enough, I need a backup plan as the hoses are tough to source, other option is remove hose and take to a hydraulic specialist and have the connections remade

easier said than done, waiting to hear back from a breakers network, failing that ill remove it an look a getting the hose and joint relaced by a hydraulics specialist, all depends on cost

any tips to getting the hose out, had a play tonight a prooved i can undo the pump end remove fitting and refit again, the back connection is much easier to get to, removing the pipe completly looks like fun, anything i need to move out of the way first to make it easier?

Yeah, if you get it off, take it to a hydraulics place (like Pirtek), and they'll reuse the end fittings and swage on new sleeves. Keep the pipe exactly as it comes off to get the length and the termination orientation right. Not cheap, like £50, but it'll last forever. Otherwise take the Rich option and find a donor car. I wouldn't delete the power steering option, as it makes it very heavy to park.

well that was fun, battery and base removed, washer bottle fixings undone, a few plugs undone low pressure pipe come out fairly easily but the high pressure was a pig

Dropped of at Pirtec, they are gonna have a go at either remaking the whole lot or replacing the leaking section, the problem is that when the pipe was originally manufactured they must have crimped the hoses before they put all the bends in so as it stands it wont fit in the crimping machine but they seem to know their stuff

All done, was pretty much a perfect fit, fitted was easier as i managed to disconnect a few more things to make it easier to install

total price was £120 inc vat, then bought some more power steering fluid for £11, cheaper than a new one and better than fitting second hand that could just as easily fail, any problem with this one it all covered by warrenty

the guy who made it up gave me a call to see how it fitted, its clear that their normal day to day stuff is prolly basic and this gave them a nice job they could have a think about and get their teeth into, was please to report its all fitted with no signs of any leaks

this investigation was all started by the power steering pump becoming noisy, turns out not enough oil in system and was causing it to froth up what little oil was left, now system is full up again pump is silent, my lucky day cos its been noisy for about 3months and I'm really surprised it didn't trash the pump, must be made of solid stuff
