  1. California is already using Hydrogen power for road cars, as soon as someone finds a cheap enough way of getting Hydrogen to the consumer that will be the main source of power and the electric car will be second, we may even end up with hydrogen hybrids at some point. either way our government should be investing more in these technologies rather than subsidising wind/ solar farms if we want to be truly green. As with batteries being so expensive we are currently funding research into using mushrooms as a cheap replacement of lithium-ion battery cells as at least they realised there the costs need to come down for future use. Diesel and petrol will both be gone when this all happens, dare i say nearly all hydrocarbon use as we know it will be irrelevant. Won't be for a while though.
  2. Do you realise what pollutants Diesels emit? And how much VW have been 'blagging it'? Yes they are 'cleaner' when it comes to C02 (but then some tests have shown even C02 is similar in petrol and diesel) which is the main green house gas the major economies wanted to crack down on but the other gasses VW have covering up are linked to many many deaths in humans every year including having serious harm to unborn children. Some of the tests where shown to be 40 times higher in real world testing that isn't being thrown under the bus thats VW making the bus driving it up and big sanctimonious hill and then running themselves over with aforementioned bus. Diesels where on the verge of being banned in major, congested European cities before this come about, it will be interesting to see what this does. If this was a bank scandal then it would be near Goldman Sachs, it may be likely this will involve other manufactures but they where particularly looked at because their claims on emissions were not believed. Diesel is a dead fuel the big European car manufacturers refuse to admit they got it wrong on and VW have been caught out trying to cover up their mistakes for running with it. Diesel is only really popular in Europe. America and Asia are moving in different directions with clean fuels. This will hurt them a lot.
  3. I had a issue with a rear wheel sitting too far back in the wells, i hit a bad pot hole and it bent my stub axle, got it replaced and its much better now, not perfect but much better than it was.
  4. I got my AP's from DPM performance, delivery was really quick too. Have a look there.
  5. Did you fit spacers to the fronts in the end?
  6. Its just the instrument panel, no blue background lighting (saying that the dials for the temp, blower and directional lighting hasn't worked for a while and the fuse for that lot is ok) all other lights come on when the key is turned. Seems like a wiring issue? do you know the best way to get to the interior loom?
  7. Reading this is putting me to shame about how long it is taking me to do anything to mine. Had mine for 4 years now and not done anything to it getting my AP coilies fitted soon though hopefully how low did you go on front and rears?
  8. Yeah got a few around where i am, was thinking 40mm for mine. I reckon it should have been about 30mm lower as standard anyway where it is now is just stupid.
  9. How low you going? got the AP coil overs myself waiting to get them fitted; can't wait!
  10. Hi, Well my instrument lights went out the other night, all warning lights etc still work though. So i've just been out to see if changing the fuse will help but the symbol in my booklet doesn't show on the inside of the fuse lid. So I guess my question is does anyone know the exact fuse number i need to change? I pulled a few out that i thought may similar but nothing, all where fine. I saw another thread on here saying he had a similar problem but I don't really want to have to change the whole unit/ take it apart to change diodes if it is just a fuse? Any help appreciated, thanks
  11. Hi Everyone, Would anyone recommend every getting their engine reconditioned and if so at what point they would say go for it. Thanks.
  12. How much would these KW V1's be now? I can't seem to find any for less than £750.
  13. Looks like rear arm misalignment booking it in with the local soon so they can sort it said it too serious just don't corner too hard in the meantime...
  14. Are you repairing it back to stock or modifying as you go?
  15. I couldn't say, previous owner said he didn't do anything to it. I'm going to question VW about it again when I'm in on Friday make them look at it properly and give me an answer. I'll post back with the reply.
  16. yeah even from that angle you can see the wheels are further forward, any ideas what would be wrong with mine? Can't believe VW thought it was normal
  17. yeah no issue, i've also asked my local VW garage but they where less than useless as usual, all i ever get is its fine, normal, design floor. Going in for a service again with VW on friday going to ask them to look at it again it isn't right. Did yours sit dead centre?
  18. i tried getting the wheel as in centre as possible to show where it is sitting in the well, i reckon its too far back thats why its rubbing but i don't know how that would happen?
  19. Do these pics help? The tyres are a bit bigger in these as i couldn't get hold of the F1's at that point and needed new ones for MOT and decided to run them until they wore too.
  20. Yeah completely standard haven't done anything to it (yet) my rear wheels are slightly cambered can't tell if that one is as the same, i just thought that was standard on the gti model? Mine is the same as the pic, same year and colour as yours. i have some old pics of what it did to an old set, i'm at work right now but i'll post the pics after. the rears do sit quite far back in the wells, they aren't centred. I think the pics will better explain, i would have thought the well would have worn too but its only in one place right at the inside corner where it is a bit thicker.
  21. Its the tyres, first quarter on the inside i'm replacing them before the tread is bare the side walls are ok up to that point and yes i'm running the Bathursts. I was told it is a design fault with the well? I can barely run my hand across the tyre is that close to the bottom of the 'plastic' well.
  22. Hi all, Had my GTI for a few years now but never got around to sorting this issue out, its not had any mods to it standard everywhere. The rear wheels rub on the inside of the wells, due to the less than great cornering offered on stock i can go through rear tires quite quickly. Does anyone know what my different options are and how it would help? I've come across rolling the arches but I can't see how that would help the rubbing on the inside? Any help appreciated.
