If this is your first car I'd hold fire as statistically you are likely to have a bump in it, a 1 litre Lupo was my youngest son's first car and it was written off after another car turned out of a junction into him, the payout he had was enough for a 1.4 Lupo with a sunroof. The more experience you gain the more you can anticipate what other drivers might do, it becomes like a 6th sense, take it easy and don't spend anything significant on your car for the first year. Good luck

1.6 16V Lupo GTI Turbo engine In Progress... (MK4 Golf)
weslangdon replied to veedubdude's topic in Project Cars
As it has the same chassis as a Audi TT, I'd look in that direction for parts but seems a lot of work for limited advantage -
You are nearer than me, go have a look😎
-
If I were him I'd fix it and keep it, a tappety engine is not unusual and doesn't mean it's screwed, issue is fixing the sunroof
-
It has a leather interior too, possibly rarer than the sunroof
-
Very nice colour and a lack of the red inserts inside helps further

On fleabay, full length sunroof but quite a few problems too, might be worth saving if you are reasonably local to Louth and you fancy an oddment https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-Lupo-1-4-Sport-For-Spares/133051123499

The slider problems seem endemic, I'll do them first but the Polo GTI master cylinder sounds a useful idea too
-
He doesn't respond to questions either, I asked how the rear arches were fitted and could they be removed, no response or to what he did with the Bathurst alloys

I have had two Arosa tdi's and one Lupo Sport TDI, the Lupo is much better in its suspension and braking, perhaps its a servo issue. The little Up cars that the VW group knock out today have better brakes too.
-
Yes non abs and as it's technically an STDI a crap suspension too, the Lupo Sport TDI is a much better set up. I've made the stupid mistake of upping the engine output without first doing suspension and brakes, I knew better 25 years ago
-
Has anyone made the jump to bigger 280mm brakes for an Arosa Sport or TDI, the TDI remap is showing the inadequacies of my TDI's anchors
-
One thing I'd add is that these Lupo's /Arosa's have gear change and pedal box issues issues, all down to VW being cheapskate and using a cable changer, double check the weight of the clutch pedal and the ease of the gear change, if everything works as it should these are great little cars
-
On the Arosa Sport models too, plug in connection under the seats, a response, I believe to the 4 star ncap rating, and criticism of side impact protection there is a reference to it in this pdf file:///E:/Users/user/Downloads/euroncap_vw_lupo_2000_stars.pdf I have Arosa Sport seats with this side impact protection in my TDI but unfortunately, whilst the seats have the connectors the car doesn't

A replacement key will cost upwards of £120, so an aftermarket remote is the way to go but these aren't especially secure
-
In Deutschland on Mobile. de, lots of little 1.2, 3 litre cars and some with astonishing kilometer totals https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/search.html?cn=DE&isSearchRequest=true&makeModelVariant1.makeId=25200&makeModelVariant1.modelDescription=TDI&makeModelVariant1.modelId=21&pageNumber=1&scopeId=C&sfmr=false

It would have come with central locking, a remote key, front and rear discs, a centre exit rear exhaust and a airbags on the sides of the seats, it may also have a rear spoiler
-
James Hawkins, he has a unit in Caersalem Terrace, off Station Road. I'd been in one of his remapped cars well over a year ago and it has not presented any problems to its owner so I thought it was safe to go ahead with that remap.
-
I have, I'll get my Lupo TDI done next month
-
Had my first remap on my little Arosa today, absolutely delighted with it, a Stage 1 remap, circa 110 bhp, a transformation, how did I live without it
-
I'm not sure that true, all I can definitely say is that I've seen the Lupo Sport 100bhp car with a rear spoiler, I also at one time owned a Lupo Auto that had a body kit and a rear spoiler but that was a one off.
-
As standard only the Sport 100bhp models, but they could be optioned
-
Other than a GTI, its the one model I've never owned, so thanks for the input
-
Anybody seen this? Old car wanting to buy back
weslangdon replied to Deanshirt's topic in Seat Arosa
Compared to the GTI the TDI is a much more resilient higher mileage capable vehicle, it lacks the lightweight delicacy of aluminium panels and thinned down glass too. I have no regard for the SDI, slow, horrible handling and poor brakes, whereas the TDI if treated to a stage 1 remap more than keeps up with the GTI. I accept an SDI is cheap to run, but I'm not that cheap.
