  1. not only that, but you will also need the self levelling bit that fastens to the rear axle and the headlamp washing system fitted to the gti, which you will need to make fit into your bumper, which is different to the gti, still want to do it? why not just buy some good bulbs for your car , or buy a gti! geoff
  2. why? excuse my ignorance, as on the lupo there would be nothing to secure a front mount to. geoff
  3. I don't know stevie, but honestly you wouldn't need one, disconnect the battery, remembering to save any radio codes etc. then remove starter, put it in the vice and lubricate the bendix end making sure you pull it in and out a few times to spread the oil. then when it seems to be free put it back in and reconnect everything. simples!! you're only at whitley bay, if you fancy a day out to Hartlepool give me a shout and i'll sort it out for you. geoff
  4. yes, ray I think I know what you may be implying! mileage correction is possible with vagcom but the fact that it has been done is kept by the ecu. If done correctly then you've got nothing to worry about. there's a lot of cars running about with none matched clocks. with older cars folks tend not to worry. it's up to you really. if you do get a different set of clocks just make a note of the mileage of your old clocks when changed, your new clocks when installed, then everyone should be happy. it's not illegal to change your clocks, it is illegal to misrepresent your vehicle by altering the mileage to make it appear to have less miles on it than it actually has. confused? nah. geoff
  5. think I'd have practiced on something in the scrappy first, but you wouldn't have been working with ally. depending on the constitution of the ally, ie how much magnesium etc is in it can greatly alter your approach to the job with regard to cracking. so the softer the alloy, the easier it is to work. you can anneal the alloy, but that's another ball game, you'd probably lose your paint for a start!! geoff
  6. I've decatted a hellova lot of powerful petrol cars with decat pipes. you have a couple of options, find a tame mot examiner (there is a way around the lack of cat) or make up a pipe with a cat in it the same size as your cat replacement pipe so that come mot time it's a swap over, then when your mot is passed with cat you change it back, so everybody is happy. on some cars, however the changeover requires a different map, so be warned. sometimes it's as simple as allowing your car to "relearn" the operating system by running it for a while, but then again it may not be the case. a lot of the time the best advice is do it and see what happens. geoff
  7. like it, can you get a trolley jack and a set of spanners in it? no good to me cos it wouldn't stay clean very long. but congratulations on a good buy! geoff
  8. I bet that frightens people at the lights!
  9. nice thread that one, but what he fails to spend much time talking about is what tw^ts smd devices are to work with. in my previous life as an electronic engineer i worked with smd's and had all the correct gear to fit them. yes, sometimes you can get away with using an ordinary soldering iron, but you do run the risk of frying your led's (sounds nasty, doesn't it?) I would be tempted to drill the board(not something you can do with your black and decker) and use standard led's. if anybody wants to send me a set of dead clocks I'd be prepared to try. geoff
  10. cracking job, mate, you don't work for Haynes do you? ha ha geoff
  11. I'd agree with that. geoff
  12. boyfriend , ray. yes they are pretty rare. they were a Cambridge option and I think only old people who had plenty Wonga bought them. I believe they weren't cheap from vw, but then again nothing is.. geoff
  13. you can usually fix this by taking the starter motor off and lubricating the bendix (the bit that engages with the flywheel). this either works or it doesn't. for a proper fix it's usually a new motor. if you do lubricate it, make sure when you replace the motor that you put it back "dry" ie mop up all the excess oil. geoff
  14. firstly, it is nice to see someone with a garage like mine ha! don't worry too much about the mileage on the clocks just take up rich s offer fit them, see if it fixes the problem and if it does, wahey!! then you can worry about the mileage correction. despite what the man says at seat any mileage alterations should be logged in the ecu, which can be read by someone with vagcom, its something vw did to stop naughty men clocking your motor! . if it doesn't work fit the oil gauge and get used to looking at it. Geoff (and his cat, on the keyboard of course)
  15. the answer that I was querying has mysteriously disappeared. but for the uninitiated it was something about erectile dysfunction!!
  16. we run 16 s on ours without any problems no idea about the rest of the dimensions though, could have a look when it gets light if you're really interested. geoff
  17. I don't see why not after all anything is possible. if it had been my question I wouldn't have included the photo!! ok for you matey but not my idea of fun! I think the standard wheel is pretty, but hey.the only problem I would raise would be the airbag, if you don't have it connected you will get an irritating dash light geoff
  18. sorry skezza, I meant the clocks and the coding issue, I wasn't taking the piss. geoff
  19. where is all this shite coming from? in answer to your question I think you'll be able to make the seats fit, but not much else . having said that if you're determined most things can be made to fit, hmm 2.8 4motion lupo?? geoff
  20. I couldn't drive on marzipan, I'd be too distracted scoffing it, mmm. geoff
  21. its got us through many rallies! but seriously, for the work involved in changing the light (I've just bought sophie a brand new pair of headlights and indicators) the very delicate indicator panel has to come off to get at the screws, which is a breath holding job. you might as well do the job right with a new one. europarts was the cheapest. geoff
  22. what kind of an answer is that? wtf? geoff
  23. I was always under the opinion that you needed it for the car to function. I may be wrong of course! geoff
  24. pagid is pretty good and cheap (good enough for Porsche) but remember to use the same pads as you do discs ie pagid discs/pagid pads etc. its all a matter of taste or how much money you have. geoff
