    meets?

trolling through the posts most days, I notice a lot of people from my region of the world posting. what about organising a drive in somewhere, to put faces to names? a pub? a big carpark someplace? I await suggestions. if I get enough interest i'll try to organise something, all you'll have to do is turn up, oh and bring a flask cos it'll be cold! geoff
  2. in my opinion no. I didn't know about the Crosland business mind, you just see some thing that you've known for years and you think its all the same, but it isn't. times change. when I went to school we used to own most of the world, but now were just a shitty little island in the north sea! but on the other hand we have had experience of euro's rebranding of shite. which is why I usually insist on using bosch, luk etc. geoff

    3L Front

did any of you lot not have lego kits when you were kids? but seriously, the majority of people with q's and a's seem to live in our own glorious region hazy. why don't you all just meet at someone's house and have a cuppa whilst discussing 3l fronts. seems logical? me, I don't like them. ho ho ho ! geoff
  4. I would say that without a centre box the noise police would be waiting for you from about five miles away. you might get away with it mind cos they'd probably be expecting a corsa! seriously though if you put the middle box back in and put the cherry bomb back box in it might not sound too bad. ebay for the box you just buy a generic stainless bb and weld or clamp a hanger on. usually the people who sell the boxes sell clamps also, just go into their shop - easy geoff
  5. frankly there won't be much difference between any of them. Crosland have been making filters for as long as I can remember (which is a long time), bosch are oe for vw and like you say hengst are the dogs danglies so its up to you really. I nearly always buy bosch because that's what vw would supply, but obviously not at vw prices!! geoff
  6. there are a lot of similarities with the mk4, it's just finding them that's the problem
  7. no, but if you're concerned by all means. are you experiencing unusual tyre wear or excessive squealing going round corners? if not then I wouldn't waste my money. my opinion however, as I've never seen your car. geoff
  8. nope, some of them have a ridiculous self adjusting thing which goes into self destruct mode if you don't put the right clip in the right place, or so elsawin tells me. geoff
  9. simplest way mate is to take a set of verniers and measure the ports and then buy the bosch one in that size. we have a 1.7 sdi but the lads on the counter (who know me well) sent me the right one. if there's any discrepancy give them your vin and they should be able to sort you out. geoff
  10. wtf? where did " stupid lovely persons " come from that's not what I said. I said stupid bas^&*ds.
  11. I can't believe that a problem that could possibly have been sorted by tightening a screw was sorted out in such a butchered fashion. there must have been more to it than that. or, why are people in your neck of the woods selling angle grinders to retards? sorry, mentally challenged people, not allowed to call them stupid lovely persons these days. (oops)
  12. scrapyard is your best bet, nearly every lupo I've found in there has windy windows, then there's arosa, polo, need I go on chances are if its windy, vw it'll fit.
  13. I have fitted cheap clutches (at customers request because they couldn't afford oe)and the clutch itself has been ok but the release bearing has failed. you have to ask yourself where they make the savings and unfortunately its usually the release bearing. nine times out of ten it's ok but, as they say **** happens. you are fortunate (or not) by having your dad do the work, but if you've got to pay to have the gearbox took out again, you might as well have bought the good clutch. I'm rambling on here and I don't know which clutch you bought (you were talking about euro's) it doesn't sound like your box because the problem went away so I think we're back around to the release bearing. it may be worth your while to strip it again and look at the bearing,BEARING in mind that the noise may only occur under load. if it's faulty europarts will change it under guarantee. if you bought the cheap clutch you have a couple of options, return it and get a new one , return it and get an oe one (even these can break) or get a good bearing. as they say the choice is yours, I am not there.do you have the self adjusting clutch cable or the one you have to set up yourself? if you're over adjusting the clutch cable it won't help (just a thought) good luck geoff
  14. don't want any cat abuse on this forum, thank you. are you sure you have a misfire on cyl 1. you should be able to notice it. the manifold and backbox shouldn't make any difference, but the 200cell cat might have upset things a bit. I run a decat pipe and egr blanking but it hasn't upset my emmisions. sometimes its better to have all or nothing, in between sometimes isn't good for whatever reason. replace your coilpack .sparkplugs and leads one at a time then you will find out what it was. geoff
  15. the handling should be better (sharper if that makes sense) although I have been told that the rear beam bushes tend to transmit more noise. I can't confirm this yet, I have a golf set to do when I get round to it. did you know that eurocarparts sell polyflex bushes? I get a hefty discount on them but I buy a lot of stuff off them. you won't get a price straight away but they ring you back. haggle! it gets you a better price, geoff
  16. mk 4 golf. but there is no wiring for your new mirrors, I would suggest taking the wiring from the centre light. it means taking down your headlining, but as you're taking out your carpet as well it shouldn't be too much extra work.
  17. the problem as I see it is that the carpets are pressed to make them fit the contours of the floor. you are going to need a pretty good carpet fitter to do that. I await being told I'm wrong!!
  18. there is a way to confirm the warped disc theory. to be absolutely correct you need to fasten a dial test indicator to the strut with the dti feeler on the disc surface. any deviation on the clock will show you exactly how much your discs are out. or if you haven't got the gear try rotating your hub and listening to it. you should hear changes in tone as the disc catches or not. or you could just change the discs making sure the mounting faces are clean. if you still get the problem then you know your old discs were probably ok and it's something else like the abs ring or abs sender. rust causes all sorts of problems with these.
  19. a certain town, not a million miles from where I live is notorious for hanging monkeys. you'll know what I mean rich?
  20. did the anti roll bar bushes too, but started to run out of money, ha
  21. yeah the runflats on beemers are an absolute b888888 to do. moulded on is about right. definitely a case of the germans getting their own back
  22. ebay number 300820207201 should sort you out.

hazy, I have a series 3 109 which used to be ffr, but that's a bit off topic around here. I know what you mean about the cloning thing though
