Heard good and bad things about coilover covers - anyone have them on? Patrick

Saw a really nice and shiney red 03 or 53 reg gti on the a2 at bexleyheath - Monday morning about 7.45 a.m. with German style plates. Put me to shame and made me give mine a serious detail Tuesday. Who was this, haven't seen it about before? Patrick

Had a productive day yesterday took off the crankcase breather box and pipe off and cleaned and flushed that through - loads of Mayo. and also took the two loose bolts out of the gearbox and put locktight on thread before tightening them back up. Was going to do engine mounts at the weekend but that has solved that and (SO FAR ) I have had no shaking/misfire feeling when stationary. Hopefully this has sorted probs - don't know about economy though. Thanks to 99hjhm and mike_m - saw old threads so used your advice. Thanks, Patrick

Im actually glad I'm not the only one - got another thread going about mine. I've changed the lot now and the coilpack had one corroded terminal and plugs were bosch which were spitting a lead off. The misfire is only noticable when idling but has got a lot better after changing coilpack without a doubt although it's not gone. I've just filled her up so will let you know if it effects economy. Vag com again showed no faults yesterday. Does your misfire get worse when sitting at lights etc. Patrick

Throttle body clean tomorrow, temp sensor changed and never filled with anything but vpower. Help? Hopefully my vag specialist pal will shed some light tomorrow. But all input is welcome. Thanks, Patrick

Hi all just getting a bit fed up and wondered if anyone has had this before which could save me time and money? My gti starts fine and ticks over nicely but begins to get progressively more lumpy - from not being able to notice to shaking the whole car when sitting still. It seems to run fine when driving I just notice this at lights etc also fuel consumption has got quite high. I have just changed temp sensor, ht leads and plugs to ngk (were Bosch but was spitting a lead off), coil pack (which had 3 perfect terminals and one White corroded one). Vag com showed no faults last time but I'm getting it plugged in tomorrow so will post any codes. May clean out crankcase breather tomorrow too. Car is and has been regularly serviced and looked after and is not smoking or anything. Could it be a sign of valve seat problems which I've heard is a weak point with this engine??? Any help will be much appreciated and anyone who cures this gets a big drink! Thanks, Patrick

Done coolant temp sensor, plugs which were Bosch now ngk, new (standard) leads all within last month or 2. Not long serviced - car has done about 76k with full Vw history. When I got it I was always getting 170 exactly to a tank now 140 and a slight misfire has developed which hopefully a new coilpack will solve on Friday. Vag com says nothing, May have to look into the possibility of a leak??? As you know it's just frustrating. Patrick

Damn just me now lol - wish mine was as simple Patrick

Sorry to hijack your thread a bit mate but I've been trying to cure my poor economy for a while now too. Always filled up with shell vpower and vagcom shows no faults. Patrick

220 is definately average for a gti judging from response to my mpg thread your friends just lucky I guess. I personally would be very happy if mine would treat me to 220 miles every so often. Keep me posted if you do find some economy saving magic. Thanks Patrick

I'm having same problem at mo with my gti, I now get 140/150 miles from brim to light. Not that long since last full service, Has developed a slight misfire so to have changed coolant temp sensor, plugs, leads (which were quite nakered) and coilpack is on the way which I'm hoping will cure it. Will let you know if I have any luck with mine. Patrick

Didn't have an original loom as mine didn't have heated leather as standard, bought the kufatec one from Germany and sharan switches. Auto electrician pal said looks like elements are nakered unless anyone knows if the sharan switches aren't exactly the same as Lupo ones??? Patrick
-
Sorry - again no help but I feel your pain I tried for days to get my heated seats working with no luck. (mine was retro fitted standard Lupo gti heated leather). Good luck mate, Patrick

May be able to with a flat head screwdriver but definately much easier (and less damage possible) taking off the door card. Patrick -
Good luck with the wing mirrors. Trying to do mine at mo - serious pain in the arse! Patrick
