i know, my garage was shocked but VW knew straight away and had the mod kit on the shelf. all good now. Just hope people realise and listen out for noises etc, my bill wasnt too bad but try finding a 6-speed box...

Now the weathers improving im using the car a bit more and decided to keep her and have done a few bits... removed, rubbed down and re-painted my whiteline ARB gloss red as it was a bit rusty: Planning on having a remap so thought id ensure all the foundations are good. Had gearbox removed and rebuilt and turns out it was JUST in time before the box was a write off. If you have a gti this may be of interest to you... Excuse my lack of technical detail/knowledge but VW know about a common prob with GTI boxes where the bolts or rivets around the inside of casing come loose and when free damage the casing beyond repair. They provided my garage with a modification kit which prevents this happening so if you are having any work done to your gearbox this is a seriously worthwhile mod and wasn't expensive. But all sorted now and can really feel a nice smooth difference now: Brand new Sachs clutch, old one has clearly been ridden like a cheap .... previously:

I've owned it since February 2010 (67k miles) and used it daily until my new work vehicle arrived late 2010. Since then i've hung on to it for as long as possible (now approx 81k miles) but feel its wasted on my drive only getting the odd outing and think its time someone else got the chance to enjoy it as much as I have. Its been by far my favourite car I've owned being surprisingly fast for such a small engine, handles like nothing else and is cheap to run. I have spared no expense since buying it which can be seen from every receipt i've had during ownership. She's always warmed up properly and never filled up with anything but v-power petrol. I appreciate modifications are a personal thing but the majority of the work i have done to this car are improvements and upgrades to original parts and most can be returned to standard easily and cheaply. I have many of the original parts and spares including the full original airbox and ducting and Lupo Gti front brake callipers which can be included if the price is right. I've replaced countless parts, small and large on what has been my pride and joy since I bought her to keep her in the best condition possible. Dale (Lupoboz) can vouch for the large amount of parts I have purchased through himself along with the impressive service history and large amount of receipts which I have collected as well as many from the previous owner. The weitec coilover kit was fitted at a cost of over £600 in april 2011 and can be fully adjusted to suit. I bought the wheels brand new sep 2010 which have not one kerb mark but a few marks from salt on the roads. Bad points: Personally I think the paintwork is the only thing that shows the cars age, there are stone chips on the front end and several small scratches. Both doors microswitches (that turn interior light on when doors are opened) seem to be not working, I can possibly look into that when the weather improves. Pulls slightly to left I suspect tracking needs adjustment Interior was retrofitted and does not have the heated seats working although loom and switches are included Hopefully someone can continue to look after her like I have and enjoy this fun little car. She never fails to turns heads and is becoming increasingly rare, I definitely would not hesitate to buy another in the future. Private reg not included in sale. Hi sorry haven't been on in a while. The arb bushes are standard and awesome al sorted me some poly droplink ones for around £20 I think. The car is surprisingly good over speed bumps etc much smoother than standard suspension with 70k. Just don't go mad with the lowering if you want a decent ride.

Hi, not running kws, I have weitec coilovers and poly bushes front and rear. Have replaced front arb and droplink bushes too which got rid of a knocking so I'd change those as well a they are cheap. Also have the whiteline arb which is the biggest change I've noticed although on the stiffest setting it an be a bit frisky in the rain. Altogether the whole car feels very planted and handles brilliantly now. All in all well worth doing the lot together then getting aligned straight away. Patrick

For a few months I've had quite a loud clicking from the front end of my lupo gti 6 speed over bumps etc which I thought may have been the arb bushes which were to be replaced this weekend. Until this morning I had a few loud knocks and bangs from the same area - front left I think . It now sounds like a spitfire when driving in gear although revs fine in neutral and goes into every gear ok??? Pulled Over straight away and didn't have much time to check so can't say much more but I'd be gratefull if anyone has any ideas or advice at all! Thanks Patrick

Not sure yet but worse case scenario I may need a replacement gearbox for my 2001 Lupo gti. It's a 6 speed but as long as it's a simple swap I'll make do with 5 or 6 speed for now. I'll update when I get a diagnosis, but for now - anyone have one? Thanks Patrick

Had a cat back powerflow exhaust built today with quite standard looking twin pipes. Sounds great, will see how the noise changes over next couple of weeks. Couple of crappy iPhone pics for now. Needs a good detail and then I'll get some proper ones and maybe a video:

On my gti mine shaked like mad when idling until I tightened the two bolts (16mm iirc) underneath the engine which bolt the lower mount to the gearbox I think. If you take the undertray off you will prob see what I mean and they will most likely be loose

Hi, Have had this a while thought it could be down to top mounts but they have been changed along with all the wishbone bushes. When hitting pot holes, bumps etc there is quite a loud clicking noise coming from the front end of my Lupo gti. I'm going to change all of the arb bushes too just incase. Was just interested to see if anyone else has had a similar prob or any ideas as it would be handy Thanks Patrick

Havent done too much recently but had it lowered on new Weitec coilovers at AMD last week after driving around for way too long on stilts. I wasnt desperate for serious lows just wanted a smaller arch gap whilst improving handling and keeping as much comfort (and lack of scraping) as possible. The coilovers along with poly bushes and the whiteline arb have transformed the handling and the ride is suprisingly comfortable. Probably due to the original suspension being nackered. I had to raise the drivers side front as it was quite a lot lower than the passenger for some reason, so was scraping the tyre and rubbing the driveshaft, but all sorted now and im very happy! heres some quick pics, will get some better ones up when poss:

Hi mate, just weitecs fitted to my gti. Send me your email and I can mail you pics I have of mine at the mo as I don't have any on here yet. The ride is much better than the original suspension which was pretty nakered - just slightly bumpy (also have poly bushes which may make this worse) which is better than expected although mine is much lower than I wanted so may improve when I raise it
