WillyP
As title, some people says makes worse because of back pressure? But surely makes gases flow freely/exit quicker?
Defcon5
It's not just about removing the gas as quickly as possible, it's very technical with pulsing and scavenging and stuff.http://www.autozine.org/technical_school/engine/Intake_exhaust.html#Variable-exhaustOn a turbo engine yes, it's all about peak flow, but not on an NA
Deadmetal
Lack of back pressure will mean less torque.Lack of cat, if you're on about a proper straight through, will mean an instant mot failure. Defcon is right with pulsing and scavenging.
Skezza
I thought it was mainly diesels that had a scavenge? I didn't know petrols did as well.I've only ever had a straight through exhaust on a 106 before I got my first Lupo (I was 17 and dumb) and I share the experience of deadmetal. It was a 1.4 litre engine, on flat roads there was little difference but I noticed going up hills it felt like I had to push it more, perhaps it was just a placebo but it certainly felt less torque'y. WillyP
So what would you say? Worth it or not? Regardless of mot situation

Karl_Mac_
Don't think its worth it. You'll get a nice sound just changing the backbox.
Deadmetal
Not always true. Defcon is right with pulsing and scavenging. On a standard shopping trolley engine a big un restrictive exhaust will be detrimental to power.
