hey guys.

my cousin has just got a lupo after weeks of being in mine and loving how fun they are but she has landed herself with a 1.0 but wants it abit more nippy, i advised no point going 1.4 or the 1.4 sport cause she will see the opportunity for the 1.6 swap when she's bored.

but i have a slight problem cause i told her everything fits and she's been reading on here and some are saying the mounts need to be changed, the front sub frame and the rear if its a 1.0, and the axles to a sport.

but i said this is nonsense because its like dropping the same in but the wiring is different and maybe the cable or hydraulics.

could anyone point me to a thread or clear it up, i refuse to own the 1.0 so i wouldnt know

cheers

Why tell her it's a no problem job when you don't know yourself ?

She obviously has more common sense and has read up on it !

because ive read that you dont have to swap anything like the axle or major stuff like that, and thats what i believe

yet she believes she read you have to change them?

You'll need; engine\geabox\shafts\hubs\ecu\loom (or engine loom)

You'll want a Sport or GTI rear beam with discs too.

And then 15" wheels and a suspension upgrade.

TBH I would look for a Sport or GTI.

If you go for a polo gti engine all the mounts are the same.

thanks for the information

oh i get it now, so you just put the rear beam to benifiet for the discs on the back? its not a got to do, but its sensible to do?

yeah she has just got robbed £2500 for that little 1.0 and to be honest i wouldnt of paid over a £1000 cause the boot has rusted through partly and was full of water under the carpet when she got a puncture and went to notice there is no spare

thanks for the info silver

Hmm. I've always prefered drums on the back. Had over 70 cars and my old Rs Turbo Escort had drums on the back. Could hand brake that thing into the tightest of spots with no hassles. Had plenty of others with discs inc a 200sx and even an old 205gti turbo technics with discs that couldn't or wouldn't ever lock up like the escort

See say if someone in later life was going to read this which are better?... I was under the impression discs are better but some you guys are hands down for drums

If you yank the handbrake whilst driving, drums will lock instantly, whereas disks won't.

Disks are far better at dissipating heat though, but performance isn't a reason to change drums for disks

Handbrake aside, are they better in terms of braking with the pedal?

A wise man once said don't build a car you can buy.

Yeah fair point. But, mine will be getting 1.6'd at some point because I don't want to buy a gti, I love mine.
