I was at Donnington on Saturady just gone toying around with my 205 GTi on the track ... spotted this mean looking Lupo so went over to have a chat with the guy about it.

Its based on a LHD Lupo Cup car from Germany. I'm not the most mechanically minded but he was telling me its a based on the `bottom-end` from a GTI road car. The head however was from VW racing and with a bit of work it runs 200bhp and weighs in at 850kg stripped out with a cage. He then went on to explain how the head from the road car is no good for running high power ... and then he lost me in techno talk wink.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Needless to say it was fairly rapid round the track! biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Few more piccys:

After a bit of sniffing around on the Driver name as displayed in the rear window and the car number, the guys name is Mark Hope.

It appears that the car is used in the VW Racing Cup series. You can see more pictures and info here;

Would appear he gets slung up against much faster machinery as well!

The cars for sale in Motorsport News and Autosport. It runs a 1.8t motor.

The bloke you were talking to was probably Grant of Grant m/sport.

The problem with the GTI engine is that it runs roller rockers. I know the bloke who used to run the Polo kit cars in the British rally championship. They use the same head. He told me that above 8500rpm the whole roller rocker set up is not robust enough and you basically loose valve lift, which means less mixture into the combustion chamber, which means less power and possible detonation. They did find a solution but it was mega bucks. The E46 M3 runs a very similar standard set up and no one uses this engine in racing for the same reason.

The AFH head (Lupo Sport) is a much better basis for race tuning.

Thats exactly what he was telling me on Saturday about the roller rockers.

He definatley said it was a 1.6 tho, not a 1.8T.

Excellent biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Can't see me wanting to go higher than 7500 anyway, end up costing too much
