vibration

I think diesels do tend to vibrate a bit, how old is it or how many miles does it have on it? Could be a weak engine mount or flywheel.

Well I'd say they'd renew your clutch and flywheel, not expensive bits really, think the flywheel is about 80 quid, depends how much a garage would bill for the job but its only a morning job.

Does the vibes go away when you press the clutch?

Could be your dual mass flywheel if so!

no its the same in or out, it might be just me, i have had the car for 12 months no problem and it always been vibrating but im getting a bit concerned about it now

Yup i know the 1.9 tdi's use them

Guessing the sdi's use them and the 1.4tdi

Even some petrols use them the vag 1.8t uses a dmf

You guessed wrong, they don't ;)

About the vibration; well it's a diesel, so some vibration is normal. I'd try and find another Lupo SDi to compare it with.

Hi, is it normal for the lupo 1.7 sdi to vibrate a lot on tickover, as soon as i rev it, it is smooth.

thanks

Some good advice so far. I ran an SDI for about 25,000 miles and it did tend to vibrate at tick over. This was more noticeable when cold and in cold weather, tended to be smoother on tick over in warmer weather. It normally smoothed out a lot once under way. Its ‘sweet spot’ under load was just under 3000 rpm.

  • 4 months later...

Have got EXACTLY the same problem with my SDI... First suspected engine mounts, then thought exhaust was hitting a heat shield or body somewhere. Lot of pissing about under the car today adjusting exhaust positions and it's still the same! :censored:

Haven't replaced any engine mounts, but have checked them and they all seem good. Do hope this isn't a flywheel... :surprised:

its just the way it is, mine vibrates allot, i even checked mine with a higher mileage arosa and it was pretty much the same. if i rest on the pedal and reach about 1k rpm it smooths out alot.

it doesn't bother me much, although it sounds as if yours might be a little rougher than mine? my lupo is my first car so the noise of a diesel is no issue for me, infact there's been a few times driving a petrol car that i had to check it was still running. my dad and my mum both have diesel cars (turbo D) and there not as rough or loud as mine

I struggle to believe that it's purely down to it being a deisel engine. My Escort van has a 1.8 NA deisel engine and it is rough and rattly at best, but it doesn't vibrate like the SDI on tickover. The whole cabin shakes and the tone of the vibration changes when doors and boot lid are opened. There must be something wrong.

More investigating taking place today.

mine does it and its a 2002 1.4 petrol haah, had recent clutch done though so I'm guessing its mounts because I can guarantee mine haven't been changed, vibration is really slight though, you're probably noticing it more than usual because you're constantly thinking about it :P

same symptoms, rev to 1k (mine idles between 800-900rpm) and it feels like the engine isn't even running
