306 hdi :shades:

No way, crap engine mabe good for economy but crap crap crap, i mean it uses that blue stuff that costs loads to fill up.

You want a good old 306 1.9TD. thats where it is at! laugh.gif and you could easily get 2 for £1500.

Mine cost 600 nearly three years ago on 103k, its now on 149k and still going like a beast, absolutely no running costs, bar a few service items.

Mechanical fuel pump is almost indestructible!

Was it the Turbo-Ds you could screw mod?

My friend used to have an old M-reg blue one - he used to run it on anything he could find that was flammable!

yeah fuel pump and wastegate IIRC

went from 90bhp to 110bhp for free

hdi's require a map but go to 120bhp

they are pretty bomb proof mines was remapped and was on original turbo and clutch at 127k when i sold it

Yeah when I sold mine at similar milage it was still on original clutch and turbo. Crankshaft pulley was replaced when the timing belt was done at 100k, apparently it came off in two pieces.

The only diesel in the 106 is a 1.5 NA lump. I cant imagine how slow and unrefined that is

We had a new 1.4 diesel 106. It wasn't too bad and did 70mpg pretty reliably. Other than that, I'd go Citroen AX 1.5 diesel.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well I put my money where my mouth is...

Bought a mk3 tdi last week. Air con, electric everything, heated leather, dropped on p-slots, but unfortunately it's matt black. Failed it's mot on a ball joint and a small bit of welding. Car cost £300 and needs maybe £70 worth of work... Laughing :)
