HamO
Hello, ive been snooping around on here for a few weeks now trying to find any information on putting the new range 1.4 turbo engines into a lupo but cant seem to find anything on it. I was just wondering if ity would be a reasonably straight swap, with the mounts and everything else. my plan is to basically pillage a 1.4TSi including the gear box and put it into my lunch box lupo lol. I figured this would be a much easier and more logical swap than putting a 1.8T in there, with weight, sheer size and all the rest..Any and all help appreciated..Josh
Defcon5
They are rather tall...
HamO
Too tall? im starting to think this has never been done. Probably for a reason lol
Huw Pugh
I've been mulling this over for a few months now too, but my conclusion has been the 1.8t is the better option. The 1.8t is a tried and tested path and is far more tuneable than the 1.4. I doubt the 1.4 will have the same mounts as your stock lump although my technical knowledge is limited so I stand to be corrected. I don't think it's been done yet because its still a relatively new engine. To add to that, the highest power verion is the 170 and whilst you can tune it, the 1.8t is more readily available and can come with 225bhp before you even start looking at tuning. HamO
yeah true but the thought of 225BHP in a lunch box scares me a little lol. Plus ive got insurance to think about, tried for a 1.8t leon cupra the other week and a general consensus due to new legislation in the car insurance industry is i cant get insured until im 27! ffs. im 22 now and have 4 years no claims. Kents. anyway i figure 170 BHP will be more than enough and be very hard to follow. Ive finally found another thread somewere after trawling through google and theres alot of people skeptical about the size of the engine and whether or not it would actually fit. Apparently its deeper from front to back than an R32 Mental Edited February 7, 2011 by HamO

What did they tell you exactly? As there is no such legislation.I would imagine swapping the engine will incur greater insurance premiums than insuring a standard car of equal power
Mitchell
The engine is taller and wider front to back with all the an ancillaries on ,at a guess id expect it to be very tight ,170 BHP is achievable without force induction. HamO
They basically said that new legislation has been approved for them to add an age appropriate rating to selected cars and the leon cupra was in that. They are also hiking prices up when renewal is due because of a high rise is young drivers claiming on high powered cars... Their basically beating me for all i have for as many years as possible .Very tight is good, i like it tight Seems like a lot of hassle tbh but in my opinion the 1.4 is too slow and boring.. the GTi is what 30BHP more than the 1 4 sport so i cant see this being much better..? and the cheapest GTi i can find with savage milage for the price is 4.5k on at 85k. so an engine swap is the only decent way to go right? and i gues.. theres no replacement for displacement in the end
AlexTRea
1.8t is your best option. I'm pretty sure the TSI ENGINE won't be a easy conversion as said above of the sheer size and height of it.

Its about speed ofcourse, but also handling braking etc
penry
Soon the tsi conversion will be the mainstay, like the g60 was before the 1.8t came along...
